Babylonian Conquest

2 Kings 24:10-16

10 At that time Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came up to Jerusalem, and the war was besieged by affliction. 11 Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came upon the town, and his servants were camping upon it. 12 Jehoiachin the king of Judah went out to the king of Babylon along with his mother, his servants, his generals, and his trustees, and the king of Babylon took him in the eighth year of his reign. 13 He took from there all the treasures of the house of the Lord and the treasures of the king’s house. Then he cut all the vessels of gold Solomon king of Israel made for the temple of the Lord, as the Lord said.

14 He captured all Jerusalem, all the chiefs, all the heroes of force, ten thousand in captivity, and all the lictors and couriers; none remained, except the poor of the land’s people. 15 He exiled Jehoiachin to Babylon along with the king’s mother, the king’s wives, his eunuchs, and the chiefs of the land. He took them in captivity from Jerusalem to Babylon. 16 All the mighty men, seven thousand, lictors and couriers, one thousand, all the men of war—the king of Babylon had brought them in exile to Babylon.

Jeremiah

Jeremiah 1:1-10

1 The statements of Jeremiah son of Hilkiah, of the priests in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin, 2 on whom the statement of the Lord was in the days of Josiah son of Amon, King of Judah, in the thirteenth year of his reign. 3 It was also in the days of Jehoiakim son of Josiah, King  of Judah, until the eleventh year of Zedekiah son of Josiah, King of Judah, completed, until Jerusalem was captured in the fifth month. 4 The statement of the Lord was upon me to say, 5 “Before I formed you in the belly, I knew you; before you came from the womb, I consecrated you and gave you as a prophet to the nations.” 6 I said, “Please, Lord God! Behold, I do not know how to speak, because I am a boy.” 7 The Lord said to me, “Do not say, ‘I am a boy,’ because you shall over on all I send you and shall speak what I command you. 8 Do not be afraid of their presence, because I am with you to deliver you, says the Lord.” 9 The Lord stretched his hand and touched my mouth, and the Lord said to me, “Behold, I gave my statements in your mouth. 10 See, I authorize you today over the nations and kingdoms to uproot and to tear down, to overthrow and to destroy, to build and to plant.”

King Zedekiah

Jeremiah 39:1-9

1 In the ninth year of King Zedekiah of Judah, in the tenth month, King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon and all his army came against Jerusalem and besieged it. 2 In the eleventh year of Zedekiah, in the fourth month, on the ninth day of the month, the village was breached. 3 All the officials of the king of Babylon came and sat in the middle gate: Nergal-sharezer, Samgar-nebo, Sarsechim the Rabsaris, Nergal-sharezer the Rabmag, with all the rest of the officials of the king of Babylon. 4 When King Zedekiah of Judah and all warring men saw them, they fled, went out of the village at night by way of the king’s garden through the gate between the walls, and went out by the road of the plain. 5 The forces of the Chaldeans pursued them and overtook Zedekiah in the plain of Jericho. All his force were scattered off. They brought and took him up to King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon, at Riblah, in the land of Hamath; and he spoke his judgment with him. 6 The king of Babylon slaughtered the sons of Zedekiah at Riblah before his eyes, and the king of Babylon had slaughtered all the nobles of Judah at Riblah. 7 He put out the eyes of Zedekiah and bound him in chains to take him to Babylon. 8 The Chaldeans had set fire to the king’s house and the houses of the people, and surrounding they had breached the walls of Jerusalem. 9 Nebuzaradan, captain of the guard, had captured remnant of people remaining in the village and those who fled to him and brought them to Babylon. 10 Nebuzaradan, captain of the guard, left some of the people’s poor who had nothing and gave them vineyards and farms that day.

King Jehoiachin

Jeremiah 52:31-34

31 In the thirty-seventh year of the exile of King Jehoiachin of Judah, in the twelfth month, on the twenty-fifth day of the month, King Awil-merodach of Babylon in the year of his reign had King Jehoiachin of Judah raise his head and brought him out of prison. 32 He spoke seemly things to him and cast his seat above the seats of the kings with him in Babylon. 33 He replaced his prison clothes and ate before him constantly all the days of his life. 34 His portion came out from the king of Babylon everyday constantly until the day he died, all the days of his life.

Daniel in Nebuchadnezzar’s Court

Daniel 1:1-21

1 In the third year of the reign of King Jehoiakim of Judah, King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon came to Jerusalem and surrounded it. 2 The Lord surrendered him into his hand. He brought both King Jehoiakim of Judah and some of the vessels of the house of God to the land of Shinar in the house of the idol and installed the vessels in the treasury of his idol. 3 The king told his chief custodian Ashpenaz to bring some of the sons of Israel of the royal line and Parthians: 4 young men without blemish and handsome in appearance, prudent in wisdom and knowledge, understanding in knowing, capable of standing in the temple of the king for ministry, those to teach them the book and language of the Chaldeans. 5 The king assigned them a daily portion of the king’s rations and wine to drink, and to be educated for three years. Then they would stand before the king. 6 Among the sons of Judah were Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah. 7 The chief custodian named them: Daniel he called Belteshazzar, Hananiah he called Shadrach, Mishael he called Meshach, and Azariah he called Abednego.

8 Daniel set in his mind not to eat the king’s rations nor drink the drinking wine. He asked the chief custodian to not feed him. 9 God gave Daniel favor and compassion before the chief custodian. 10 The chief custodian said to Daniel, “I am afraid of my lord the king, who commanded your food and your drink. If he should see your face more reproached than that of the youths your age, the king would cut off my head.” 11 Daniel told Manessar the guard whom the head custodian placed in charge of Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah: 12 “Test your servants for ten days. Give us greens to eat and water to drink. 13 You will see our countenance and the countenance of the youths eating the king’s rations, and you shall do with your servants according to what you see.” 14 He listened to this word of theirs and tested them for ten days. 15 At the end of ten days he saw their faces beautiful and their flesh much fatter than all the youths eating the king’s rations. 16 Manessar was taking their portion and wine given them to drink and was giving them greens to eat and water to drink. 17 To these four youths God gave knowledge and intelligence in every writing and wisdom. Daniel understood all visions and dreams. 18 After the days the King commanded were completed, the head custodian brought them before King Nebuchadnezzar. 19 The king spoke with them and did not find among them like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah. They set them before the king. 20 Having questioned them in all matters of wisdom and understanding, the king found them ten times better than all the magicians and enchanters in his kingdom. 21 Daniel was there until the first year of King Cyrus.

Interpretation of the King’s Dream

Daniel 2:1-6, 24-45

1 In the second year of Nebuchadnezzar’s reign, Nebuchadnezzar dreamed a dream. His spirit was maddened when his sleep was on him. 2 The king said to call the magicians, the enchanters, the magi, and the Chaldeans to tell the king his dream. They came and stood before the king. 3 The king said to them, “I have seen a dream, and my spirit is maddened to know the dream.” 4 The Chaldeans spoke before the king in Aramaic and said, “O king, live forever! Tell the dream to your servants, and we will show the interpretation.” 5 The king answered and told the Chaldeans, “The word is true I said: if you do not tell me the dream and its interpretation, you shall be torn limb from limb, and your houses shall be laid waste. 6 But if you tell me the dream and its interpretation, you shall receive from me gifts and many rewards, riches, and honors. Only tell me the dream and its interpretation.”

24 In that hour, Daniel entered Arioch’s, whom the king commanded to kill the wise men of Babylon. He went and said thus to him, “Do not destroy the wise men of Babylon; rather, bring me before the king, and I will tell the king the interpretation.” 25 Then Arioch hastily brought Daniel before the king and said to him: “I found a man of the sons Judah’s captives to make the king know the interpretation.” 26 The king answered and said to Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, “Can you tell me the dream I saw and its interpretation?” 27 Daniel answered and said before the king, “No wise men, magicians, sorcerers, or enchanters can show to the king the mystery the king is asking, 28 but there is a God of heaven revealing mysteries and who will make known to King Nebuchadnezzar what will happen at the end of days. Your dream and the vision of your head as you lay on your bed were these: 29 You king, thoughts on your heart have gone up about what will be in the end, and the revealer of mysteries made you know what will be. 30 This mystery was not revealed to me because I have more wisdom than all alive; rather, because the interpretation may be known to the king and you may know what you supposed in your heart. 31 You, king, were looking, and there was a great statue, exceeding in its brightness and standing before you. Its appearance was frightening. 32 Its head was of fine gold, its chest and arms of silver, its belly and thighs of bronze, 33 its shins of iron, its feet some of iron and some of earthenware. 34 You saw a stone was cut out not by human hands, and it struck the statue on its feet of iron and clay and shattered them well. 35 Then the iron, bronze, earthenware, silver, and gold were shattered together and were like chaff someone ploughed in summer, and a forceful wind took them. They were found nowhere. The stone that struck the statue was a great mountain and filled the whole earth.

36 “This is the dream, and I will say its interpretation before the king. 37 As for you, king, the king of kings, God most high has given you a strong kingdom and honor. 38 He has given in your hands every place where men, heaven’s fowl, and field animals dwell and made you rule over all of them. You are the head of gold. 39 After you will arise another kingdom weaker than you, and another a third kingdom of bronze shall rule over all the earth. 40 The fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron; just as iron crushes and pulverizes all, so shall it also pound and subdue all. 41 As you saw the feet and toes, some of potter’s earthenware and some of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; but some of the strength of iron shall be in it, as you saw the iron mixed with the clay earthenware. 42 The toes you saw were some of iron and some of earthenware, some of the kingdom shall be strong and some of it shall be broken. 43 As you saw the iron mixed with earthenware clay, so will they mix with one another in man’s lineage and not cling to each other as iron not mixing with clay. 44 In the days of those kings, the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that shall never be destroyed. The kingdom shall not be left to other people but shall pulverize and put an end to all these kingdoms and shall stand forever. 45 As you saw a rock was cut from the mountain not by hands and pulverized the iron, the bronze, the earthenware, the silver, and the gold, the great God has made known to the king what shall be in other days. The dream is certain, and its interpretation trustworthy.”

46 Then King Nebuchadnezzar fell on his face, worshiped Daniel, and said to incense and offerings to him. 47 The king answered and said to Daniel, “In truth, your God is God of gods, Lord of kings, and a revealer of mysteries so that you could reveal this mystery!” 48 Then the king promoted Daniel, gave him many gifts, made him rule over the whole land of Babylon, and appointed him chief over all the captains and all the wise men of Babylon. 49 Daniel asked the king and made Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego rule over the work of the city of Babylon. Daniel 3:13-24

13 Then King Nebuchadnezzar in rage and anger said to bring Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, and they brought them before the king. 14 King Nebuchadnezzar answered and said to them, “In truth, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, you do not serve my go and do not worship the golden statue I set up? 15 Now if you are to, at the hour your hear the sound of the horn, piping, harp, bagpipes, and all musical instruments, fall and worship the statue I made. If you do not worship, you shall at that hour be thrown into a furnace of blazing fire, and who is your god that will deliver you from my hands?” 16 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego answered, “King Nebuchadnezzar, we need not give a statement on this matter 17 because our God exists, whom we serve, who is able to deliver us from the furnace of blazing fire and out of your hands, king. He will ransom us. 18 Then you shall know, king, we do not serve your god nor worship the golden statue you set up.” 19 Then Nebuchadnezzar was filled with anger and the splendor of his face changed at Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. He said to heat the furnace seven times more than was heated. 20 He told the strongest men in his force to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego and to throw them into the furnace of blazing fire. 21 Then those men having bound them in their pants, leggings, tunics, and caps, threw them into the furnace of blazing fire. 22 Because the king’s word was rushed and the furnace was exceedingly heated, the blazing flame of fire killed those men who backbit them, who cast Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. 23 But those three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, bound, fell down in them middle of the furnace of blazing fire. 24 They were standing, walking, bound in the middle of the flaming fire, praising God, and blessing the Lord.

Nebuchadnezzar’s Dream of a Tree

Daniel 4:19-27

19 Then Daniel, named Belteshazzar, was perplexed for a time, and his thoughts had scared him. The king answered and said, “Belteshazzar, do not let the dream or its interpretation scare you.” Daniel answered and said, “My lord, the dream is for your haters, and the interpretation for your enemies. 20 The tree you saw great and strong, its top reaching the sky, seen to all ends of the earth, 21 its leaves beautiful, its fruit much, it has food for all flesh, all animals of the wild inhabit its limits, and in its branches alight all fowl of the sky, and from it are fed all flesh. 22 You are the king who became strong and mighty. You became great and reached the sky. Your dominion is to the ends of the earth. 23 The king saw the watcher and the holy one, who came down from heaven, called strongly, and said, ‘Cut down the tree and destroy it. Leave its remnants’ root on the earth, bound in iron and brass, in the tender grass of the field. He shall be drenched with the dew of heaven. With wild animals is his inhabitance in the grass of the earth. His human heart will be replaced; an animal heart shall be given to him, until seven seasons alternate about him.”

Belshazzar’s Feast

Daniel 5:5-8, 17, 24-28

5 At that hour, the fingers of a human hand came out and were writing on the wax of the wall’s plaster of the king’s palace, and the king had seen the palm of the writing hand. 6 Then the king’s countenance changed, and his thoughts were terrified. The joints of his waist loosened, and his knees knocked together.

17 Then Daniel answered and said to the king, “Let your gifts be for yourself. Give the honor of your house to others. Nevertheless, I will read the writing to the king and show him the interpretation.

24 “So from his presence the palm of the hand was sent and this writing was inscribed. 25 This writing is inscribed: MENE, MENE, TEKEL, and PARSIN. 26 This is the interpretation of the word. MENE: God numbered your kingdom and completed it. 27 TEKEL: you are weighed on the scales and found wanting; 28 PERES: your kingdom is divided and given to the Medes and Persians.”

Lions’ Den

Daniel 6:16-24

16 Then the king said to bring Daniel and throw him in the lions’ den. The king answered and said to Daniel, “May your God, whom you serve faithfully, rescue you!” 17 They brought a stone and laid it on the mouth of the den, and the king sealed it with his signet and with the signet of his officials so Daniel would not matter. 18 Then the king went to his palace and spent the night fasting; no food was brought to him, and sleep fled from him. 19 Then the king hurriedly rose at dawn and quickly went to the lions’ den. 20 When he neared the den he called Daniel in a loud voice. The king answered and said, “Daniel, Daniel, servant of the living God, has your God whom you faithfully serve been able to deliver you from the lions?” 21 Then Daniel then said to the king, “King, live forever! 22 My God sent his angel and shut the lions’ mouths. They did not destroy me, because I have been found innocent before him. Also before you, king, I have done no wrong.”

Daniel’s Vision of Goat and Ram

Daniel 8:15-25

15 When I, Daniel, saw the vision, I sought to understand. Here was standing before me like a man’s appearance. 16 I heard a human voice by the Ulai call and say, “Gabriel, explain the vision to this man.” 17 He came to me where I was standing. When he came, I feared and fell on my face. He said to me, “Understand, man, because the vision is for the end’s time.” 18 As he was speaking with me, I prostrated my face to the ground, and he neared me and set me on my position. 19 He said to me, “Behold, I am showing you what will be in wrath’s end at the end’s time. 20 The ram you saw with the two horns is the king of Media and Persia. 21 The kid goat is the king of the Greeks, and the great horn between its eyes is the first king. 22 Where it broke and rose four from its border, four kings from the people shall rise but not with their power. 23 At the end of their kingdom, once the debts are fulfilled, a king of strong countenance and understanding riddles will rise. 24 Strong in his power and not power in himself and miracles, he will destroy, prosper, cross, and destroy the mighty and people of the holy. 25 By his riddle, deceit will prosper by his hand, and his heart shall be great. From the calm, he will destroy many and against the authority of authorities shall rise and by the hand’s grasping be broken.

Susannah

Daniel 13:1-9, 15-21, 45-51, 54-59

1 There was a man living in Babylon named Joakim. 2 He took a wife named Susanna, the daughter of Hilkiah. She was very beautiful feared the Lord. 3 Her people were all righteous and taught their daughter the commandments of Moses. 4 Joakim, her husband, was very rich and had a garden around his house, where the Jews would gather because he was the most honored of them all. 5 At that time two elders with rose with the people were chiefs of the people and judges that year, about whom God spoke: “From them came wickedness from Babylon: from elders and these judges who ministered in the temple.” 6 These men were coming always to Joakim’s house, and those who had a suit would come and be adjudicated. 7 It was when all the people departed at noon, Susanna would go along with her maids to her husband’s garden. 8 The two elders would to see her every day as she would walk and go to her husband’s garden. 9 They desired her, their sense perverted, and they bent their eyes to not look at Heaven or remember again with the righteous.

15 It was when they were watching her, they saw her going as everyday, yesterday, and the day before with her two maids. She desired to bathe there in the garden because it was hot. 16 Those two elders went and lay in wait there in the garden, and no one else was there in the garden except the two elders. 17 Susanna said to her maids, “Go bring me ointment and soap, and shut the garden doors until I bathe.” 18 They did as she commanded them, shut the garden doors, and went out by the side doors to bring what they were commanded. They did not see those elders, because they were hidden there. 19 When Susanna’s maids went out, those two elders ran upon her and said to her: 20 “Look, the garden doors are shut. There is no one who sees us. But because we indeed desire you, lie with us. 21 If you do not want to lie with us, we will testify against you perjury that a young man lied with you; because of this, you sent your maids away.”

54 “Now then tell me this before all this congregation: Under which of the trees did you see her and the youth lying together?” That elder said to him, “Under the pistachio tree.” 55 Daniel said to him, “Know this, if you truly lied, it comes up on your head, for the angel of God is to accept the commandment from before God to rip you end to end.” 56 Later he called his other companion and said to him also, “You offspring of Canaan and not of Judah, beauty has enslaved you and lust has perverted your heart. 57 This is how you all do to the daughters of Israel, who did not do your evil wills out of their fear. 58 You, then, tell me before all this congregation, under which of the trees did you all see this one and that youth lying together. He answered and said before all the congregation, “Under the pomegranate tree.” 59 Daniel said to him, “Truly you spoke iniquity before the Lord about this frail one. You all wish to cast what is innocent of iniquity. This evil comes up on your head. As if it is written in the law of Moses. For behold the Angel of God is dispatched upon you, his sword in his hand to rip you end to end and destroy the two of you together.” All the congregation answered in a loud voice and said together, “Praise God who gave life to all who are faithful to his name. Daniel admonished them in the wrong they wronged.”

Priests of Bel

Daniel 14:10-20

10 There were seventy priests of Bel, besides their wives and children, and that king came along with Daniel into the house of Bel. 11 The priests said to the king, “Behold, we are going outside; you, king, place the foods for Bel, mix and place the wine, shut the door, and seal it with your signet. 12 Come early in the morning, if you do not find all these foods Bel eats, we will die. If it is Bel who eats them, Daniel, who blasphemed against us.” 13 (Because they relied on a hidden entrance made below the table, by which they would enter to go out and eat everything placed by Bel, and take something extra. 14 When the priests went out, the king brought the foods filling the table, placed it before Bel, filled the wine vessels according to their custom, and left. Daniel said to his boys, “Bring me ashes.” They brought him ashes, sifted it with a sieve before the king on all the house of Bel. Then king saw, went out, and closed the door. The king sealed it with his signet and with Daniel’s signet.

15 The priests went at night as they were accustomed, along with their wives and children, and had eaten everything placed by Bel and drank the wine. 16 The king arose early in the morning along with Daniel, and they went there. 17 The king said to Daniel, “Daniel’s seals are standing.” Daniel said, “They are standing, my lord king.” 18 It was when they opened the door, the king inspected the table, saw everything placed by Bel was eaten, let out a loud voice upon the door outside, and said, “You are great, Bel. There is no deceit in you, not even a little.” 19 Then Daniel laughed and held the king so he would not enter inside until the hour. Daniel said to the king, “Look, my lord the king, and inspect the ground. Whose traces are these?” 20 The king said, “I see the traces on the ground of men, women, and children.” 21 Then the king angered and seized the priests, their wives, and children. They showed the king the entrance there in secret through which they would enter, go out, and eat everything placed by Bel on the table. 22 The king killed all of them and gave Bel to Daniel. Daniel broke it and demolished its temple.

Daniel and the Dragon

Daniel 14:23-42

23 There was also a great dragon, and the Babylonians worshiped him. 24 The king said to Daniel, “Now you cannot say about him he is not God. Worship him because he is a living God.” 25 Daniel said to the king, “I worship the Lord God because he is the living God. 26 But if you, king, will give me authority over him, I am going to kill this dragon without sword or scepter.” The king said to him, “It is given to you.” 27 Daniel took pitch, hair, and fat, and boiled them together, made balls, and cast them in the mouth of the dragon. The dragon swallowed them, burst, and died. Daniel said, “Behold, see your cult, Babylonians!” 28 It was when the Babylonians heard it, it upset them well. They gathered against the king, revolted against him, and said to each other, “The king has become a Jew. He has broken Bel, the dragon is killed, and he has killed the priests.” 29 They went to the king and said to him, “Either betray Daniel to us or we kill you and your household.” 30 The king saw they rose against him all together and compelled him, and they handed Daniel over to them by compulsion. 31 They brought Daniel and went to throw him in the lions’ den, and he was there for six days so the lions would be hungry and eat him. 32 There were inside seven lions, and they would give them two bodies a day and two sheep. In those days, they did not give them anything to eat so they would be hungry and eat Daniel.

33 There was the prophet Habakkuk in Judah. He boiled pottage, broke bread in a tub, threw it in, and went to the field to bring it to the harvesters. 34 The angel of the Lord said to him, “Go bring this food upon you to Daniel to throw it among the lions in Babylon.” 35 Habakkuk said, “My Lord, I have not seen Babylon, and I do know about the inside.” 36 The angel of the Lord cast his hand upon the head of Habakkuk, lifted him by the hair of his head, and placed him in Babylon above the den with the energy of the Holy Spirit. 37 Habakkuk called and said, “Daniel, rise and take this dinner which God has sent you.” 38 Daniel said, “God remembered me, and did not forsake his mercies from me. For I know you do not forsake those who love you.” 39 So Daniel rose to eat. The angel took Habakkuk that hour and set him in the place for which he had taken him before. 40 The king came on the seventh day because he was sad about Daniel. He came to the den, inspected the den, and saw him sitting there. 41 The king gave out a loud voice and said, “Great is the God of Daniel.” 42 He took him out of the den. He had thrown in the den those enemies of Daniel who backbit him and sought to kill him. In that hour, the lions ate them before the king and before Daniel.

Ezekiel’s Vision

Ezekiel 1:1-36; 26-28

1 It was in the thirtieth year, in the fourth month, on the fifth day of the month. I was among the captives by the river Chebar, the heavens were opened, and I saw a vision of God. 2 On the fifth day of the month the fifth year of the captivity of Jehoiachin, King of Judah, 3 the statement of the Lord was upon the priest Ezekiel son of Buzi, in the land of the Chaldeans by the river Chebar. The hand of the Lord was on me there. 4 I saw here a stormy wind coming out of the north: a great cloud and fire flashing and shining around it, and in the middle looked like inside the fire. 5 Inside it looked like four animals. These looked like humans. 6 Each had four faces and four wings.

26 Above the roof over their heads looked like a sapphire stone and like a throne. On the likeness of the throne looked and seemed like a human above it. 27 I saw what looked like God and looked like fire within surrounding it. From the appearance of his loins and above and from his loins and below, I saw something like fire and a brightness encircling it. 28 Like a bow in the clouds on a rainy day, such was the appearance of the brightness encircling it. Such was the likeness of the honor of the Lord. 29 I saw him, fell on my face, and heard the voice of speaking.

Scroll

Ezekiel 3:1-11

1 He said to me: “Man, eat something you find. Eat this scroll, and go speak with the children of Israel.” 2 I opened my mouth, and he fed me that scroll. 3 He said to me, “Man, fill your belly and stomach by this scroll I am giving you.” I ate it, and it was in my mouth as sweet as honey. 4 He said to me: “Man, go enter the captivity of the children of Israel and tell them my statements. 5 Because I have not sent you to a people of deep speech and stammering tongue, but to the house of Israel: 6 not to many peoples whose speech you do not hear. If only I had sent you to them, they would hear you. 7 The house of Israel will not listen to you, because they are not willing to hear me. For all the house of Israel have a strong forehead and a hard heart. 8 I have hardened your face against their faces, and strengthened your forehead against their foreheads. 9 Like adamant, stronger than flint, I have made your forehead. Do not fear them or tremble before them because they are a rebellious house.” 10 He said to me, “Man, all my statements I say to you receive in your heart and hear with your ears. 11 Go enter the captivity of the children of your people. Speak with them and say to them, “Thus says the Lord of Lords.” Perhaps they will hear and tremble.
