Fall

Pride of Satan
Ezekiel 28:12-19

12 You are the stamp of the image, full of wisdom, the crown of glory. 13 You were in Eden, Paradise of God, and girded by every gem: the sard, carnelian, emerald, beryl, sapphire, jasper, rock crystal, and pearls. Your treasury was filled with gold and your storehouses with gems on the day you were created. 14 You were with a cherub anointed and overshadowed. I placed you on the holy mountain of God. You were among the stones of fire. 15 You walked without a spot in your ways from the day you were created until iniquity was found in you. 16 In much of your trade, iniquity filled inside you, and you sinned; I killed you from the mountain of God, and the overshadowed cherub destroyed you in the stones of fire. 17 Because your heart exalted in your beauty, your wisdom corrupted with your beauty. I cast you to the earth before kings and gave you to them to see. 18 In the abundance of your deceit and in iniquity of your trade, you profaned your sanctuaries. I brought forth fire from within you, and it had consumed you. I made you to ashes on the earth in the eyes of all who saw you. 19 All who know you among the peoples stare at you. You have destruction and shall be no more upon Zion.

Fall of Satan
Isaiah 14:12-19

12 How you fell from heaven. Wail, “In the morning I fell to earth the reproaches of the nations.” 13 You said in your heart, "I will ascend to heaven, and above the stars of God I will raise my throne. I will sit on the high mountains at the skirts of the north. 14 I will ascend to the tops of the clouds and appear like the Most High." 15 Therefore, to Sheol below and to the bottom of the pit! 16 All who see you will inspect you, think, and say, “Is this the man who had embittered the earth and shook kingdoms? 17 He laid waste to the world like a desert, overthrew towns, and did not loose captives?” 18 All the kings of the nations lie in glory, each in his tomb. 19 You have been cast from your grave like a hated shoot, clothed with the killed, murdered by the sword, going down in the stones of the pit like trampled corpses.

Temptation of the Serpent
Genesis 3:1-4

1 The serpent was more cunning than every animal of pasture the Lord God made. The serpent told the woman, “Truly did God say that you two may not eat from trees in Paradise?” 2 The woman told the serpent, “From the fruits of trees in Paradise, all of them we may eat, 3 but from the fruits upon the tree in the center of Paradise, God said, ‘Do not eat of it. Do not approach it so you will not die.’” 4 The serpent told the woman, “You all will not die indeed, because God knows on the day you all eat of it, your eyes are going to be opened and you all are going to be like god, knowing good and evil.”

 Fall of Adam and Eve
Genesis 3:6-7

6 The woman saw the tree was beautiful for food and a desire to the eyes, and the tree was desirable at which to look. Then she took from its fruits and ate. She also gave it to her husband with her. He ate and 7 the eyes of both were opened, and he knew they were naked. Then they stuck together fig leaves, and he made them loincloths.

Reprimand of Adam and Eve
Genesis 3:8-12

8 They heard the voice of the Lord God walking in Paradise at day’s decline, and Adam and his wife concealed themselves before the presence of the Lord God in the midst of the trees of Paradise. 9 The Lord God called to Adam and said to him, “Where are you, Adam?” 10 And he said, “I heard your voice in Paradise, saw I was naked, and concealed myself.” 11 He said, “Who showed you you were naked? Behold, you have eaten from the tree I commanded you from which not to eat.” 12 And Adam said, “It was the woman you gave to be with me who has given it to me from the tree, and I ate.”

Protoevangelion
Genesis 3:13-15

13 And the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this you did?” The woman said, “The serpent made me stray, and I ate.” 14 Then the Lord God said to the serpent, “Because you did this, cursed be you more than every livestock and more than every animal of pasture. On your belly you shall go and you shall eat dust all the days of your life. 15 I shall put enmity between you and the woman and between your seed and hers: he shall strike your head, and you shall strike his heel.”

Curse of Adam and Eve
Genesis 3:16-19

16 To the woman he said, “I shall indeed increase your pangs and your labor, and in pangs you shall bring forth children. You shall face your husband, and may he have authority over you.” 17 To the man he said, “For hearing the voice of your wife and eating of the tree which I commanded you and said to you, ‘You shall not eat from it,’ cursed be the earth because of you. In pains you shall eat from it all the days of your life: 18 it shall sprout thorns and thistles for you, and you will eat the grass of the field. 19 By the sweat of your face, you shall eat bread until you return to the earth from which you were taken. For dust you are, and to dust you shall return.”

Expulsion from Eden
Genesis 3:21-24; Psalm 31; Psalm 25

21 The Lord God made for Adam and his wife some leather tunics and clothed them. 22 The Lord God said, “Behold, Adam has become like one of us, knowing good and evil. Now will he stretch his hand, take also from the tree of life, eat and live forever?” 23 Then the Lord God sent him from the Paradise of Eden to till the earth from which he was taken. 24 The Lord God expelled him and made a cherub and a sword’s point go around from the east of Paradise, revolving to guard the way of the tree of life.

1 In you, Lord, I hoped. I shall never be shamed. In your righteousness, rescue me. 2 Incline your ear to me; quickly answer me. Be for me, God, a help, a refuge, and my salvation. 3 Because you are my strength and my refuge. For your name’s sake, console me. 4 Take me out of this net buried for me, because you are my helper. 5 To you I entrust my spirit. You saved me, Lord God of truth. 6 You hated those who kept vain idols, but I have trusted in the Lord. 7 I shall exult and rejoice in your goodness; you saw my humbling and known the trouble of my soul. 8 You did not betray me into the hand of my enemies. You set up my feet in relief. 9 Have mercy on me, Lord, because I am distressed. My eye was disturbed in rage along with my soul and belly. 10 Because my life is spent in misery, and my years with groans. My strength is feeble with poverty. My bones were disturbed by all my enemies. 11 I was a shame to my neighbors, a horror to those who know me, and those who would see me in the street would loathe me. 12 I was forgotten like one the dead of heart. I was like a destroyed vessel. 13 Because I heard the meditation of many as they take counsel against me together and plot to take my life.  14 But I have trusted in you, Lord. I said, “You are my God.” 15 The seasons are in your hands. Deliver me from my enemies and from those who pursue me. 16 Shine your face upon your servant and save me in your goodness. 17 Lord, I will not be ashamed I called you. The wicked shall be ashamed and go down to Sheol. 18 The lips of the iniquitous speaking against the righteous falsehood and contempt will be stopped. 19 How much is your goodness you keep for your fearers and those who hope in you before man! 20 You will hide them in the shelter of your face from the tumult of man. You will cover them in your shadow from strife. 21 Blessed is the Lord who chose for himself the chosen in the strong village. 22 I had said in my rush, “I was destroyed before your eyes.” You heard the sound of my plea when I called. 23 Love the Lord, his righteous. The Lord keeps the faithful and retributes the iniquitous their works. 24 Be strong and strengthen your heart, all who hope in the Lord.

1 To you, Lord, I have lifted my soul. 2 My God, in you I hoped; I shall not be shamed. My enemies will not exult over me. 3 Nor shall all who hoped in you be shamed; the iniquitous in will be shamed in their vanity. 4 Show me your ways, Lord. Make me know your paths. 5 Lead me in your truth and teach me because you are my God and my savior. I have waited for you all day. 6 Remember, Lord, your mercy from forever and your graces. 7 Do not remember the follies of my youth, but according to your many mercies remember me because of your goodness, God. 8 The Lord is good and upright. Therefore he rectifies sinners in the way. 9 He leads the humble in judgement and teaches the poor his way. 10 All the paths of the Lord are goodness and truth for those who keep his covenant and his witness. 11 For your name, Lord, spare me from inquity which is great. 12 Who is the man that fears the Lord? He will teach him the way he chose. 13 His soul shall abide in goodness, and his offspring shall inherit the land. 14 The mind of the Lord is upon his fearers, and he made his covenant known to them. 15 My eyes are always toward the Lord because he brings my feet out of the net. 16 Turn to me and have mercy on me because I am lonely and afflicted. 17 The distresses of my heart are many; bring me out of my distresses. 18 See my subjection and my labor, and forgive me all my sins. 19 See how many are my enemies. With iniquitous hate they hate me. 20 Keep my life and deliver me because I hoped in you. 21 The blameless and upright shall cling to me because I waited for you. 22 Save, God, Israel from all of their opressions.

Birth of Cain and Abel
Genesis 4:1-2

1 And Adam was intimate with Eve, his wife. She conceived, bore Cain, and said, “I have obtained a man by the Lord.” 2 She again bore his brother, Abel. Abel was a shepherd, and Cain was a farmer.

Sacrifice of Cain and Abel
Genesis 4:3-7

3 It was after several days Cain brought some fruits of his land as an offering to the Lord. 4 Abel had also brought some firstlings of his flock and some of their fat portions. The Lord favored Abel and his offering 5 and had not favored Cain and his offering. Cain was very displeased, and his face turned gloomy. 6 The Lord said to Cain, “Why did you get displeased? Why does your face turn gloomy? 7 Look, if it were beautiful, it would have been accepted. If it were not beautiful, sin is crouched upon the earth. You may face towards it, and it may have authority over you.”

Murder of Abel
Genesis 4:8-16; Psalm 139

8 Cain said to Abel, his brother, “Let us travel to the plain.” It was when they were in the field Cain rose against his brother, Abel, and killed him. 9 The Lord said to Cain, “Where is Abel, your brother?” He said, “I do not know, for am I my brother’s keeper?” 10 The Lord said, “What did you do? The voice of your brother’s blood bellows out to me from the earth! 11 From now on, you are more cursed than the earth, which opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hands. 12 When you farm on the earth, it will no longer give to you its might; you will be trembling and nodding on the earth.” 13 Cain said, “My crime is too great to forgive! 14 Here you brought me today from the face of earth, and I shall be hidden before you. I shall be trembling on nodding on the earth, and anyone who finds me will kill me.” 15 The Lord said to him, “Not so! Every murderer of Cain by sevenfold shall be requited.” The Lord placed a sign on Cain so anyone who finds him would not kill him. 16 Cain went out from the presence of the Lord and settled in the land of Nod, east of Eden.

1 Lord, you searched me and knew me. 2 You know my sitting and my standing. You understood my thoughts from afar. 3 You know my way and my paths. You tracked all my ways. 4 If there was a change on my tongue, you, Lord, know it. 5 All from the front to end you have chosen and placed upon my hand. 6 Knowledge and wonder was more than me. You strengthen and I did not muster strength. 7 Where shall I go from your spirit? Where can I hide from you? 8 If I ascend to heaven, you are there. If I go down to Sheol, you are there. 9 If I raise my wings like an eagle and alight at the end of the sea, 10 even there your hand will grasp me, and your right hand shall lead me. 11 I said, “The darkness shall shine for me and the night shall shine in my face.” 12 The darkness does not darken more than you, the night shines like day, and the darkness is like light. 13 Because you have formed my kidneys. You met me from my mother’s womb. 14 I shall thank you because the wonders you made, for your works are exalted, my soul well knows. 15 My bones are not hidden from you, who made in secret and went down to the bases of the earth. 16 My eyes see your retribution. Upon your scriptures all shall be written. Behold, the days have shortened and there is no one in them. 17 Your mercies are well valued by me, God, and their authorities strengthen well. 18 I shall count them, and they are more than the sand. I am awakened, and I am still with you. 19 If you kill, God, the sinners, the men of blood will cross from me 20 because they speak of you and take vainly your city. 21 I have hated, Lord, your haters and have angered at those who stood against you. 22 I have hated them with perfect hatred. They were enemies for me. 23 Search me, God, and know my heart. Prove me, and know my goings. 24 See if there is any way of deceit in me. Lead me in the way everlasting.

Descendents of Cain and Abel
Genesis 4:17-26

17 Cain was intimate with his wife, and she conceived and bore Enoch. He built a town and named the town after his son Enoch. 18 Then Irad was born to Enoch, Irad bore Mehuael, Mehuael bore Methushael, and Methushael bore Lamech. 19 Lamech had taken for himself two wives: the name of one, Adah; the other’s name, Zillah. 20 Then Adah bore Jabal, the father of the tent-dwellers and livestock-keepers. 21 The name of his brother was Jubal, the father of all who play the lyre and harp. 22 Zillah also bore Tubaqlin, artisan of all works of bronze and iron. The sister of Tubaqlin is Naamah. 23 Lamech said to his wives: “Adah and Zillah, hear my voice, wives of Lamech. Listen to my speech because I have killed a man for my welts, a youth for my wounds. 24 Because Cain may be avenged sevenfold, Lamech seventy-seven.” 25 Then Adam was intimate again with Eve his wife, and she conceived and bore a son and named him Seth because “God gave me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain killed.” 26 To Seth also a son was born. He named him Enosh. Then the calling on the name of the Lord began.

Enoch
Genesis 5:22-23

22 Enoch was beautiful to God after he bore Methuselah three hundred years. Then he bore sons and daughters. 23 All the days of Enoch were three hundred sixty-five years. Enoch was beautiful to God and was no more, because God took him.
