Moses in Egypt
Enslavement of Israelites
Psalm 105:23-25; Exodus 1:8-13
23 Israel entered Egypt, Jacob had dwelled in the tent of Ham. He multiplied his people well 24 and strengthened them more over their enemies. 25 He turned their heart to hate his people and to deceive his servants.

8 A new king who did not know Joseph rose over Egypt. 9 He said to his people, “Look, the people, the sons of Israel, are more numerous and prevailing than we are. 10 Let us conspire against them until we multiply. Otherwise, war will come, and they will add still to our haters, fight with us, and go up from us from the land.” 11 They placed over them evil authorities to enslave them into servitude as they were building supply cities for Pharaoh, Pithom, and Rameses. 12 The more they enslaved them, the more they multiplied and prevailed; they were distressed by the sons of Israel. 13 The Egyptians would enslave the sons of Israel with harshness.

Murder of the Hebrew Boys
Exodus 1:15-22
15 The king of Egypt spoke to the Hebrew midwives, one of whom was named Puah and the other named Shuprah. 16 He said to them, “When you are delivering for the Hebrews, see once they bend: if it is a boy, kill him; if it is a girl, let her live.” 17 The midwives feared God and did not do as the king of Egypt said to them but let the boys live. 18 Then the king of Egypt called the midwives and said to them, “For what have you done this deed and let the boys live?” 19 The midwives said to Pharaoh, “Hebrew women are not like Egyptian women, because they are midwifes, and before the midwife comes in upon them, they give birth.” 20 God dealt well with the midwives because they did this deed. The people multiplied and well prevailed. 21 As the midwives feared God, God gave them households. 22 Then Pharaoh commanded all his people and said, “Cast every boy born into the river and let every girl live.”

Birth of Moses
Exodus 2:1-9
1 A man from the house of Levi went and took a daughter of Levi. 2 The woman conceived, bore a son, saw he was beautiful, and hid him three months. 3 She could no longer hide him and took for him a boxwood ark, plastered it with bitumen and pitch, put the boy in it, and put it in the shallow on the river’s edge. 4 His sister rose up from afar to know what would be done to him. 5 Then Pharaoh’s daughter went down to bathe at the river, her maids walking on the riverside. She saw the ark in the shallow and sent her maid to take it. 6 She opened it and saw the boy. Here the boy was crying, and she pitied him and said, “This is one of the Hebrews’ sons.” 7 His sister said to Pharaoh’s daughter, “I shall go and call a nurse for you among the Hebrew women to nurse this child for you.” 8 Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Go.” The girl went and called the mother of the boy. 9 Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Here is this boy for you. Nurse him for me. I am giving you your wages.” Then the woman took the boy and nursed him. 11 The boy grew up, and she brought him to Pharaoh’s daughter, and he was for her a son. She named him Moses because she said, “From the water I drew him.”

Murder of the Egyptian
Exodus 2:11-15
11 It was in those days, Moses grew up, went out to his brothers, and saw their slavery. He saw an Egyptian man as he was striking a Hebrew man among his brothers from the sons of Israel. 12 He turned to and fro, saw there was no one, murdered the Egyptian, and buried him in sand. 13 He went out the next day and saw here two Hebrew men contending. He said to the offender, “Why are you striking your companion?” 14 He said to him, “Who has made you a great man and judge over us to kill me, you say, like you killed that Egyptian yesterday?” Then Moses was afraid and said, “In truth the word was made known.” 15 Pharaoh heard of this deed, and sought to kill Moses.

Flight to Midian
Exodus 2:15-22
15 Moses fled from Pharaoh’s presence, went to the land of Midian, and sat beside a well. 16 The priest of Midian had seven daughters, who were coming and drawing and filling troughs to give drink to their father’s flocks. 17 The shepherds were coming and driving them away. Then Moses rose, saved them, and gave drink to their flock. 18 Coming to their father Reuel, he said to them, “For what did you water so quickly today?” 19 They said to him, “An Egyptian man delivered us from the hand of the shepherds. He also drew for us and gave drink to the flock.” 20 He said to his daughters, “Where is he? Why did you leave the man? Go call him, and he shall eat bread.” 21 Moses was pleased to dwell with the man. He gave him his daughter Zipporah as his wife. 22 She bore a son, and he named him Gershom because he said, “I have been a settler in a foreign land.” She bore again a second son to Moses, and he named him Eliezar because, “The God of my fathers is in my help, and he delivered me from Pharaoh’s sword.” 23 There were many of these days, and the king of Egypt died. The children of Israel sighed from hard slavery and prayed. Their bellow went up to the Lord from slavery. 24 God heard their groan, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. 25 God saw the sons of Israel, and God knew.

ܿBurning Bush
Exodus 3:1-6
1 While Moses was tending the flock of his father-in-law Jethro, priest of Midian, he led the flock to the wilderness and came to the mountain of God, Horeb. 2 The angel of the Lord appeared to him within a flash of fire from within a bush, and he saw the bush was kindled by the fire yet the bush was not burning up. 3 Then Moses said, “I will turn aside and see this great sight as to why the bush is not burning up.” 4 The Lord saw he turned aside to see, and God called him from within the bush and said, “Moses, Moses!” And he said, “Here I am.” 5 He said, “Do not come near here! Loosen your shoes from your feet because the place on which you are standing is a holy place.” 6 He said, “I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” And Moses hid his face because he was afraid to look at God.

God’s Promised Land
Exodus 3:7-12
7 The Lord said, “I have indeed seen the slavery of my people in Egypt. I have heard their bellow in the presence of their masters because I know their pain. 8 I have come down to save them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up from that land to a land broad and good, a land flowing with milk and honey, a land of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites. 9 Now here the bellow of the children of Israel has gone up to me. I have also seen the oppressions the Egyptians press on them. 10 Now come, I shall send you to Pharaoh. I shall bring out my people, the children of Israel, from Egypt.” 11 Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring out the house of Israel from Egypt?” 12 Then he said, “I will be with you and this sign I have sent you: once you bring the people out of Egypt, all of you shall serve before God on this mountain.”

God's Name
Genesis 39:1-6
13 Moses said to God, “Look, I will go to the sons of Israel and say to them, ‘The God of all your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they shall tell me, ‘What is his name?” what shall I say to them?” 14 God said to Moses, “Ehyeh asher ehyeh.” He said, “So you shall say to the sons of Israel, ‘Ehyeh has sent me to you.’”
18 They will hear your voice. You and the elders of the children of Israel will go in to the king of Egypt and will say to him, ‘The Lord God of the Hebrews has revealed himself to us. Now we shall go a three days’ journey into the wilderness and sacrifice to the Lord our God.’ 19 I know the king of Egypt is not going to let you go without a forceful hand. 20 I will stretch forth my hand and strike the Egyptians with all of my wonders I shall do among them. And afterwards he will send you all forth. 21 I will give the people mercy in the eyes of the Egyptians. When you all go, you all will not go empty-handed: 22 woman will ask her neighbor and the exile of her house for gold ware, silver ware, and clothing. Dress your sons and daughters and shake off the Egyptians.

ܿGod's Signs
Exodus 4:1-9
1 Moses answered and said, “Look, they are not going to believe me or hear my voice because they are going to say, ‘The Lord did not appear to you.’” 2 Then the Lord said to him, “What is this in your hand?” He said, “A staff.” 3 He said, “Cast it on the ground.” He cast it on the ground, and here it was a snake, and Moses fled from it. 4 The Lord said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand and grasp it by its tail.” He stretched out his hand and withheld it, and it became a staff within his hand. 5 “So that they believe the Lord, God of their fathers, God of Abraham, God of Isaac, and God of Jacob, appeared to you.” 6 The Lord said to him again, “Put your hand into your bosom.” He put his hand into his bosom and took it out, and here his hand was leprous as snow. 7 The Lord said to him, “Put back your hand into your bosom”. He put his hand back into his bosom, took it from his bosom, and it became like his flesh. 8 “If they do not believe or listen to the voice of the previous sign, they will believe the voice of the latter sign. 9 If they do not believe these two signs and do not hear your voice, take some water of the river and spill it upon the dry ground. This water you take from the river will become blood on the dry ground.”

Moses’ Speech
Exodus 4:10-15
10 Moses said to the Lord, “I beg of you, my Lord, I was not a man of speech—not yesterday, the day before yesterday, nor up to the moment you spoke with your servant; my speech is slow, and I am hard of tongue.” 11 The Lord said to him, “Who made the mouth of man? Or who has made the stammerer, the deaf, the mute, the seeing, or the blind? Was it not I, the Lord? 12 Now go. I will be with your mouth and teach you what you will speak.” 13 Then Moses said to him, “I beg of you, my Lord, send through whomever you are sending.” 14 Then the Lord’s rage was heated against Moses, and he said to him, “Look at your brother Aaron, the Levite. I know he does indeed speak. Look, he also shall go out to meet you. He will see you and rejoice in his heart. 15 You will tell him and place the statements in his mouth. I will be with your mouth and with his mouth and teach you what to do. 16 He shall speak with the people and be for you a translator. You shall be to him as to a god. 17 Take this staff in your hand to do with it the signs.”

Moses’ Firstborn Son
Exodus 4:19-26
18 Moses returned, went to his father-in-law Jethro, and said to him, “I shall return and go to my brothers in Egypt and see if they are still alive.” And Jethro said to Moses, “Go in peace.” 19 Then the Lord said to Moses in Midian, “Return and go to Egypt because all of the men who were seeking your soul are dead.” 20 Then Moses took his wife and his sons, mounted them upon a donkey, and returned, going to Egypt. Moses took the staff of God within his hand. 21 The Lord said to Moses, “Once you have returned going to Egypt, see all of the wonders, see all the wonders I did by your hands, do them before Pharaoh. I will harden his heart, and he will not send off the people. 22 Say to Pharaoh, ‘Thus says the Lord. My firstborn is Israel. 23 I told you to send forth my son, and he shall serve me. If you are unwilling to send my son, here I kill your firstborn son.’” 24 Moses was on the way to a lodge, and the Lord met him and sought to kill Moses. 25 Zipporah took flint and circumcised the foreskin of her son. She held his feet and said, “May you be a groom of blood you to me!” 26 He let go of him. Then she said, “A groom of blood by circumcision.”

Increase in Oppression
Exodus 5:1-11
1 After this, Moses and Aaron came in and said to Pharaoh, “Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, ‘Send forth my people. They shall celebrate a festival to me in the wilderness.’” 2 Pharaoh said, “Who is the Lord that I should hear his voice to send forth Israel? I do not know the Lord, nor am I going to send forth Israel.” 3 They said, “The Lord God of the Hebrews revealed himself to us. We shall go a three days’ journey to the wilderness and sacrifice unto the Lord our God, lest he meet us with war or death.” 4 The king of Egypt said to them, “Why, Moses and Aaron, are you stopping the people from their work? Go to your slavery!” 5 Pharaoh said to them, “Look, the people of the land are now many, and you are stopping their work.” 6 Pharaoh commanded on that day his authorities of the people and his scribes and said to them, 7 “You shall no longer give straw to the people to make bricks like yesterday or the day before. They shall go gather for themselves the straw. 8 You shall raise on them the count of bricks they were making as of yesterday and the day before. Do not lessen it, for they are idle; because of this, they are complaining, saying, ‘Let us go sacrifice to our God.’ 9 Harden work upon the men, and they will not worry about it nor worry about empty words.” 10 Then his authorities of the people and his scribes went out and said to the people, “Thus says Pharaoh, ‘I am not giving you the straw. 11 You shall go take for yourselves straw from wherever you find it, and nothing will be lessened from your work.”

Sign of the Staff
Exodus 7:8-13
8 The Lord said to Moses and Aaron, 9 “When Pharaoh says to you, ‘Give me a sign,’ say to Aaron, ‘Take your staff and cast it before Pharaoh, and it will become a snake.’” 10 Moses and Aaron came to Pharaoh and did as the Lord commanded; Aaron cast his staff before Pharaoh and his freemen, and it became a snake. 11 Pharaoh called wise men and sorcerers, and those sorcerers of Egypt also did the same by their sorceries. 12 Each cast his staff before Pharaoh, they became snakes, and Aaron’s staff swallowed their staffs. 13 Pharaoh’s heart was hardened, and he did not send them forth as the Lord said.

First Plague
Exodus 7:14-24
14 The Lord said to Moses, “Pharaoh’s heart is hardened. He does not want to send forth the people. 15 Go to Pharaoh’s in the morning. He is going to go out to the water. Stand before him on the river bank, and take in your hand the staff that was a snake. 16 Say to him, ‘The Lord God of the Hebrews sent me to you and said, “Send forth my people. They will serve me in the wilderness. Here until now you do not hear.” 17 Thus says the Lord, “By this, I am the Lord. Here I am going to strike the river’s water with the staff in my hands, and it shall change and be blood. 18 The fish in the river shall die, and the river shall stink. The Egyptians shall be afflicted to drink the water from the river.”’” 19 The Lord said to Moses, “Say to Aaron, ‘Take your staff and stretch out your hand over the Egyptians’ water—over their rivers, their reservoirs, their lakes, and ponds of water—and they shall be blood. There shall be blood throughout the whole land of Egypt—both in the wood and stones.’” 21 Moses and Aaron did so as the Lord commanded. Aaron raised the staff in his hand and struck the water in the river in the sight of Pharaoh and his servants. All the water in the river became blood, 21 and the fish in the river died. The river stank, and the Egyptians could not drink its water. There was blood throughout the whole of Egypt’s land. 22 The sorcerers of Egypt did likewise by their sorceries, and Pharaoh’s heart was hardened and did not hear them as the Lord said. 23 Pharaoh turned, went in his house, and had not brought this to mind. 24 All of the Egyptians dug around the river water to drink because they could not drink from the water of the river.

Second Plague
Exodus 8:5-15
5 The Lord said to Moses, “Say to Aaron, ‘Stretch out your hand with your staff over the rivers, ponds, and lakes, and bring up frogs on the land of Egypt.”’ 6 Aaron stretched out his hand over the waters of the Egyptians; and the frogs came up and covered the land of Egypt. 7 The sorcerers also did so by their sorceries and brought up frogs on the land of Egypt. 8 Then Pharaoh called Moses and Aaron and said, “Pray before Lord. He will withdraw the frogs from me and my people, I shall send forth the people, and they will sacrifice before the Lord.” 9 Moses said to Pharaoh, “Ask for yourself the time when I shall pray for you, your servants, and your people, and he will withdraw the frogs from you and your houses.” 10 He said, “Tomorrow.” Moses said, “According to your word because you will know there is no one like the Lord our God. 11 The frogs shall leave you, your house, your servants, and your people and shall be left only in the river.” 12 Moses and Aaron went out from Pharaoh. Moses prayed before the Lord because of the frogs he brought upon Pharaoh. 13 Then the Lord did according to Moses’ word: the frogs died out of the houses, courtyards, and fields. 14 They gathered them in piles on piles, and the land stank. 15 Pharaoh saw there was relief, hardened his heart, and did not listen to them, just as the Lord told Moses.

Third Plague
Exodus 8:16-19
16 The Lord said to Moses, “Say to Aaron, ‘Raise your staff and strike the dust of the earth. It will be lice throughout the whole land of Egypt.”’ 17 He did so: Aaron raised his hand with his staff and struck the dust of the earth, and lice were on humans and livestock. All the dust of the land had become lice throughout the land of Egypt. 18 The sorcerers did so also by their sorceries, but they could not expel the lice, and there were lice on humans and animals. 19 Then the sorcerers said to Pharaoh, “It is the finger of God!” But Pharaoh’s heart hardened, and he did not hear them, just as the Lord said.

Fourth Plague
Exodus 8:23-32
23 “I will make a distinction between my people and your people. This sign shall be tomorrow.” 24 The Lord did so: he brought a strong swarm into Pharaoh’s house, his servants’ house, and all the land of Egypt. The land degraded because of the swarm. 25 Then Pharaoh called Moses and Aaron and said, “Go, sacrifice to your God in the land.” 26 Moses said, “It would not be seemly to do so, because we sacrifice out of the abomination of the Egyptians to the Lord our God. If we sacrifice the Egyptians’ idols to their eyes, they stone us. 27 May we go a three days’ journey into the wilderness and sacrifice to the Lord our God as he will tell us.” 28 Pharaoh said, “I will send you forth and you will sacrifice to the Lord your God in the wilderness—so long as you do not indeed go far away, and pray for me.’ 29 Moses said to Pharaoh, “As soon as I go forth from you, I shall pray to the Lord, and the swarm will depart from Pharaoh, his servants, and his people tomorrow—so long as Pharaoh not again deceive, not sending forth the people to sacrifice to the Lord.” 30 Moses went out from Pharaoh and prayed to the Lord. 31 The Lord according to Moses’ word: he removed the the swarm from Pharaoh, his servants, and his people, and not one remained. 32 Pharaoh hardened his heart this time also and did not send forth the people.

Fifth Plague
Exodus 9:1-7
1 The Lord said to Moses, “Go to Pharaoh, and say to him, ‘Thus says the Lord, the God of the Hebrews: Send forth my people, and they will serve me. 2 If you do not want to send them forth and still hold them, 3 the hand of the Lord is going to be on your possessions in the field: on the horses, donkeys, camels, bulls, and flocks shall be a very thorough plague. 4 The Lord distinguish between the livestock of Israel and the livestock of the Egyptians: not one will die of all the livestock of the house of Israel.’” 5 The Lord gave a time: “Tomorrow the Lord will do this deed in the land.” 6 The Lord did this deed the day after, and all the livestock of the Egyptians died, but not one of the livestock of the house of Israel died. 7 Pharaoh sent forth and saw not one of the livestock of the house of Israel was dead, the heart of Pharaoh was hardened, and he did not send forth the people.

8 The Lord said to Moses and Aaron, “Take handfuls of oven ash, and Moses will cast it at the face of the sky before the eyes of Pharaoh. 9 It will be sand on all the land of Egypt and be on man and livestock an ulcer of blisters, multiple on throughout the land of Egypt.” 10 They took the oven ash and stood before Pharaoh, and Moses threw it at the sky before the eyes of Pharaoh, and it became an ulcer of blisters and flew on humans and animals. 11 The sorcerers could not stand before Moses because of the boils, because of the ulcer afflicted the magicians as well as all the Egyptians. 12 The Lord hardened the heart of Pharaoh, and he did not hear them, just as the Lord told Moses.

Seventh Plague
Exodus 9:22-28
22 The Lord said to Moses, “Raise your hand at the face of heaven, and hail will be on the whole land of Egypt, on man, livestock, and all the grass of the pasture in the land of Egypt.” 23 Moses raised his staff at the face of heaven. The Lord had given sound and hail, fire was walking on the earth, and the Lord dropped hail on the land of Egypt. 24 The hail was falling, fire flashing inside the hail. It was very strong: it had not been like it in all the land of Egypt since the day it was a nation. 25 The hail struck all the land of Egypt, everything in the pasture from man to livestock. The hail had destroyed all the grass of the field and had broken all the trees of the field. 26 Only in the land of Goshen, where the children of Israel were residing, had hail not fallen. 27 Pharaoh sent for and called Moses and Aaron and said to them, “I sinned this time. The Lord is justified, and I and my people are wicked. 28 Pray before the Lord! There is much space before him so there will not be the sounds of God and hail. I will send you forth, and you will stay no more.” 29 Moses said to him, “Once I have gone out of the town, I will stretch out my hands to the Lord; the sounds shall withdraw, and hail shall not fall again, because you shall know the earth is the Lord’s. 30 As for you and your servants, I know you do not yet fear before the Lord God.” 31 The flax and the barley had perished because the barley had formed a stalk and the flax had bent. 32 The wheat and the spelt had not perished, because they were late.) 33 Moses went out of the town from Pharaoh and spread his hands at heaven to the Lord, and the sounds and hail withdrew, and the rain did not recline on the earth. 34 When Pharaoh saw that the rain, hail, and sounds ceased, he sinned again, and the heart of Pharaoh and his servants hardened. 35 The heart of Pharaoh was thickened, and he would not send forth the children of Israel, just as the Lord sent by the hand of Moses.

Eighth Plague
Exodus 10:12-20
12 The Lord said to Moses, “Raise your hand over the land of Egypt with the locust, and it will go up over the land of Egypt and eat the grass of the land and everything the hail left.” 13 Moses raised his staff over the land of Egypt, and the Lord had brought the Simoon upon the land all that day and all night. It was morning, and the Simoon had brought the locust. 14 The locust came upon all the land of Egypt and settled throughout the border of the Egyptians. It was so strong: the locust was not like this before nor will it be like this afterwards. 15 They covered the eye of all the land, and the land darkened. It ate all the grass of the land and all the fruit of the trees the hail left; no leaf on the tree nor grass in the field in all the land of Egypt was left. 16 Pharaoh rushed to call Moses and Aaron and said, “I have sinned against the Lord your God and against you. 17 Even now forgive my sin this time, and pray before the Lord your God and he shall remove from me this death.” 18 Moses went went out from Pharaoh and prayed before the Lord. 19 The Lord changed it and brought a very strong west wind, and it lifted the locust and cast them into the Red Sea; not one locust was left in all the border of the Egyptians. 20 The Lord hardened Pharaoh’s heart, and he did not send forth the children of Israel.

Eighth Plague
Exodus 10:21-29
21 The Lord said to Moses, “Raise your hand toward heaven, and there will be darkness over the land of Egypt, and the darkness will obscure.” 22 Moses raised his hand toward heaven, and there was darkness and obscurity throughout the land of Egypt for three days. 23 A man did not see his brother, nor did a man rise from his place for three days. The children of Israel had light among their dwelling. 24 Pharaoh called Moses and said to him, “You all go worship before the Lord your God. Leave only your flocks and bulls. May also your baggage may go with you.” 25 Moses said to Pharaoh, “You shall also give in our hands sacrifices and burnt offerings, and we will sacrifice to the Lord our God. 26 May you also give our livestock with us. Not even one hoof from ours will be left behind, because we will take from it to worship before the Lord our God. We do not know how to serve the Lord once we arrive there.” 27 The Lord hardened Pharaoh’s heart, and he did not want to send them forth. 28 Pharaoh said to Moses, “Get away from me! Beware! Do not appear before again, because on the day you are seen by me, you will die.” 29 Moses said, “You said it beautifully! I will not see your face again.”

Tenth Plague
Exodus 11:1-10; Psalm 105:26-36
1 The Lord said to Moses, “I am bringing one more plague upon Pharaoh and upon the Egyptians. Then he will send you all forth from here. Once I have sent you forth, get out of here. 2 Say before the people every man shall ask his companion and every woman her companion for ware of silver and gold.” 3 The Lord gave the people mercy in the eyes of the Egyptians. Moses also was a man very honored in the land of Egypt in the eyes of Pharaoh’s servants and in the eyes of the people. 4 Moses said, “Thus says the Lord: In the middle of the night, I will go forth inside Egypt. 5 Every firstborn in the land of Egypt will die, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sits on his throne to the firstborn of the handmaid in the millhouse and all the firstborn of the livestock. 6 There will be a great lamentation in the land of Egypt, such as has not been nor shall be. 7 He shall harm those from the house of Israel: not even a dog on its tongue, nor humans, nor livestock, because you all shall know the Lord distinguished between Egyptians and the house of Israel. 8 All these servants of yours shall come down to me, bow to me, and say to me, ‘Get out, you and all the people with you.’ Then I shall leave.” Moses went out from before Pharaoh in great anger. 9 The Lord said to Moses, “Pharaoh will not hear you, because I shall multiply my miracles in the land of Egypt.” 10 Moses and Aaron had done all these miracles before Pharaoh, and the Lord hardened Pharaoh’s heart, and he did not send forth the children of Israel from his land.

He broke the trees of their borders. 34 He spoke, and the locust came and the crawling locust, without number throughout their land. 35 They ate all the grass and the fruits of their lands. 36 He killed all the firstborn of Egypt: the first of all their brood.

Passover Preparation
Exodus 12:1-11
1 The Lord said to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, 2 “This month shall mark for you the beginning of months; it shall be for you the first month of the year. 3 Tell all the congregation of the children of Israel they are to take a lamb for each home and a lamb for each household on the tenth of this month. 4 If a home is too small to afford a lamb, it shall take one with its home’s closest neighbor: according to the number of souls, you shall count for the lamb enough for each to eat. 5 You shall have a lamb without blemish, a year-old male. You may take it from the sheep or goats. 6 You shall keep it until the fourteenth day of this month. All the people of the congregation of the children of Israel will slaughter it at twilight. 12 I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and every firstborn of the land of Egypt will die: from man to beast. And I shall execute judgements on all the gods of the Egyptians; I am Lord. 13 This blood will be a sign for you on the houses you are in. I shall see the blood and pass over you, and there shall be no death to ravage you once I kill in the land of Egypt. 7 They will take and sprinkle some of the blood on both doorposts, the threshold, and the homes in which they eat it. 8 That night they will eat flesh roasted over fire and shall eat unleavened bread with bitter herbs. 9 Do not eat any of it raw or boiled in water, but roasted over fire: all its head, shanks, and innards. 10 None of it will remain until morning; you shall burn anything remaining until morning. 11 This is how you shall eat it: your loins girded, shoes on your feet, and staffs in your hand; and you will eat hurriedly because it is the Passover for the Lord.

Death of the First Born
Exodus 12:28-32
28 The children of Israel went and did just as the Lord had commanded Moses and Aaron. They had done so. 29 It was at midnight the Lord had killed all the firstborn of the land of Egypt: from the Pharaoh’s firstborn, sitting on his throne, unto the firstborn of the prisoner in prison and all of the firstborn livestock. 30 Pharaoh rose in the night along with all his servants and all the Egyptians. There was a great wail in the land of Egypt, and there was no house without one dead. 31 Pharaoh called Moses and Aaron that night and said, “Rise, get away from my people, both you and the children of Israel! Go, worship the Lord, as you said. 32 Take both your flocks and your bulls, as you said, and go bless me too.”

Pillar of Cloud and Fire
Exodus 13:17-22
17 When Pharaoh sent the people forth, God did not lead them by way of the land of the Philistines because it was near, because God said, “Would not the people fear once they see war and return to Egypt?” 18 God took the people by way of the wilderness by the Red Sea. Armed, the children of Israel went up out of the land of Egypt. 19 Moses took with him the bones of Joseph because he indeed adjured those of the house of Israel and said, “God will indeed remember you. Carry my bones with you from here.” 20 They set out from Succoth and camped at Etham, on the edge of the wilderness. 21 The Lord went in front of them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead them on the way and by night in a pillar of fire to illumine them to go by day and night. 22 The pillar of cloud by day and the pillar of fire by night did would not depart from the people.

Parting of the Sea
Exodus 14:13-29
13 Moses said to the people, “Do not fear. Wait and see the Lord’s salvation he does today as the Egyptians you see today you shall not see again. 14 The Lord shall fight over your face, when you are still.” Then Moses prayed to the Lord. 15 The Lord said to Moses, “Why are you praying before me? Tell the children of Israel to march. 16 You, raise your staff, bend your hand over the sea, and divide it, and the children of Israel will enter in the sea on dry ground. 17 I, behold, am hardening the heart of the Egyptians so they will enter after them, and I will be glorified by Pharaoh, all of his force, his chariots, and his chariot drivers. 18 The Egyptians shall know that I am the Lord once I have been glorified by Pharaoh, all his force, his chariots, and his chariot drivers.” 19 The angel of the Lord who was going before the camp of Israel marched and went behind them. The pillar of cloud marched from in front of them and stood behind them. 20 It entered between the camp of the Egyptians and the camp of Israel. There was the cloud and darkness all night. It illumined all the night for the children of Israel, and they did not draw near to them all night. 21 Moses raised his hand over the sea. The Lord drove the sea by a strong Simoom wind all night and turned the sea into dry land, and the waters divided.

Crossing of the Sea
Exodus 14:22-29
22 The children of Israel went into the sea on dry ground, and the waters had been for them a wall on their right and on their left. 23 The Egyptians pursued, and all of Pharaoh’s horses, chariots, and chariot drivers entered after them into the sea. 24 It was the morning watch, and the Lord appeared to the camp of the Egyptians in the pillar of fire and cloud and disturbed the Egyptians’ camp. 25 He bound their chariot wheels, and they were driven with difficulty. The Egyptians said, “We shall flee from the house of Israel because the Lord made war for them with Egypt.” 26 The Lord said to Moses, “Bend your hand over the sea, and the water will return over the Egyptians, their chariots, and chariot drivers.” 27 Moses raised his hand over the sea, and the sea returned at dawn to its place, the Egyptians fleeing before it. The Lord beat the Egyptians into the sea. 28 The waters returned and covered the chariots, the chariot drivers, and all Pharaoh’s army that had followed them into the sea, and not one of them remained. 29 The children of Israel had walked on dry ground through the sea, and the waters had been a wall for them on their right and on their left.

Joseph’s Reassurance to His Brothers
Genesis 50:15-21
15 Joseph’s brothers saw their father died, were afraid, and said, “Will Joseph harm us? Will he requite us all the evil we did to him?” 16 They neared Joseph and said to him, “Your father had commanded before his death and said, 17 ‘Thus say to Joseph: Please, forgive the foolishness of your brothers and their sins: they did to you evil.’ Now forgive the foolishness of the servants of your father’s God.” Joseph wept when they spoke to him. 18 His brothers went, fell down before him, and said, “Look, we are slaves to you.” 19 Joseph said to them, “Do not fear, because I am under God. 20 You have recokoned evil upon me; God reckoned it for good to do as today and for many people to live. 21 Now do not fear. I myself will provide for you and your belongings.” He consoled them and spoke to their heart.

Death of Joseph
Genesis 50:22-26
22 Joseph dwelt in Egypt along with his father’s household, and Joseph lived one hundred ten years. 23 Joseph saw Ephraim’s great-grandchildren. Also the children of Machir son of Manasseh had been born on Joseph’s knees. 24 Then Joseph said to his brothers, “I am dying, and God indeed remembers you and bring you up out of this land to the land that he swore to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.” 25 Joseph made the sons of Israel swear and said, “God indeed remembers you. Carry up my bones from here with you.” 26 Joseph died, one hundred ten years old. They embalmed him and placed him in a coffin in Egypt.
