Good Shepherd

John 10:1-42

1 “Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever does not enter by the gate into the fold of sheep but goes up from another place is a thief and a robber. 2 He that enters by the gate is shepherd of the sheep. 3 The keeper of the gate opens the gate for him. The sheep hear his voice. He calls his sheep by their names, and they go forth. 4 Once he puts forth his sheep, he goes before them. His sheep follow him because they know his voice. 5 The sheep do not follow a stranger but escape from him, because they do not know the stranger’s voice.” 6 Jesus had spoken this allegory to them, but they did not know what he was speaking to them.

 א ܐܰܡܻܝܢ ܐܰܡܻܝܢ ܐܳܡܰܪ ܐ̱ܢܳܐ ܠܟ݂ܽܘܢ ܕ݁ܡܰܢ ܕ݁ܠܳܐ ܥܳܐܷܠ ܡܷܢ ܬ݁ܰܪܥܳܐ ܠܰܛܝܳܪܳܐ ܕ݁ܥܳܢܳܐ ܐܷܠܳܐ ܣܳܠܷܩ ܡܷܢ ܕ݁ܽܘܟ݁ܳܐ ܐ̱ܚܪܳܢܝܳܐ ܗܰܘ ܓ݁ܰܢܳܒ݂ܳܐ ܗܽܘ ܘܓ݂ܰܝܳܣܳܐ܂ ב ܗܰܘ ܕܷ݁ܝܢ ܕ݁ܥܳܐܷܠ ܡܷܢ ܬ݁ܰܪܥܳܐ ܪܳܥܝܳܐ ܗܽܘ ܕ݁ܥܳܢܳܐ܂ ג ܘܰܠܗܳܢܳܐ ܢܳܛܰܪ ܬ݁ܰܪܥܳܐ ܦ݁ܳܬ݂ܰܚ ܠܷܗ ܬ݁ܰܪܥܳܐ ܘܥܳܢܳܐ ܫܳܡܥܳܐ ܩܳܠܷܗ ܘܥܷܪ̈ܒ݁ܰܘܗ̱ܝ ܩܳܪܷܐ ܒ݁ܰܫܡ̈ܳܗܰܝܗܽܘܢ ܘܡܰܦܷ݁ܩ ܠܗܽܘܢ܂ ד ܘܡܳܐ ܕ݁ܰܐܦܷ݁ܩ ܥܳܢܷܗ ܩܕ݂ܳܡܷܝܗ ܐܳܙܷܠ ܘܥܷܪ̈ܒ݁ܰܘܗ̱ܝ ܕܻ݁ܝܠܷܗ ܐܳܙܻܠ̱ܝܢ ܒ݁ܳܬ݂ܪܷܗ ܡܷܛܽܠ ܕ݁ܝܳܕ݂ܥܻܝܢ ܩܳܠܷܗ܂ ה ܒ݁ܳܬ݂ܰܪ ܢܽܘܟ݂ܪܳܝܳܐ ܕܷ݁ܝܢ ܠܳܐ ܐܳܙܳܠ̱ܐ ܥܳܢܳܐ ܐܷܠܳܐ ܥܳܪܩܳܐ ܡܷܢܷܗ ܕ݁ܠܳܐ ܝܳܕ݂ܥܳܐ ܩܳܠܷܗ ܕ݁ܢܽܘܟ݂ܪܳܝܳܐ܂ ו ܗܳܕ݂ܷܐ ܦܷ݁ܠܷܐܬ݂ܳܐ ܐܷܡܰܪ ܠܗܽܘܢ ܝܷܫܽܘܥ ܗܷܢܽܘܢ ܕܷ݁ܝܢ ܠܳܐ ܝܻܕ݂ܰܥܘ ܡܳܢܳܐ ܡܰܠܷܠ ܥܰܡܗܽܘܢ܂

7 Jesus said to them again, “Amen, amen, I say to you, I am the gate to the sheep. 8 All who came are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them. 9 I am the gate. If someone should enter by me, he shall live, enter, go forth, and find pasture. 10 The thief does not come except to steal, kill and destroy. I have come so they might have life and something more. 11 I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd sets himself for his sheep. 12 But the hireling, who is not a shepherd and has no sheep, once he sees the wolf coming, leaves the sheep and flees. The wolf comes, snatches them, and scatters the sheep. 13 Then the hireling flees because he was hired and has no care for the sheep. 14 I am the good shepherd. I know what is mine and am known by mine 15 as my Father knows me and I know my Father. I give my life for sheep. 16 I have other sheep that are not of this flock as well. I must bring them to me too. They will hear my voice. All of the sheep shall be one and the shepherd one. 17 Because of this, my Father loves me: I give my life to take it again. 18 No one takes it from me, but I leave it of my own choice. For I am authorized to leave it and am authorized to take it again. I have received this commandment from my Father.”

 ז ܐܳܡܰܪ ܠܗܽܘܢ ܕܷ݁ܝܢ ܬ݁ܽܘܒ݂ ܝܷܫܽܘܥ ܐܰܡܻܝܢ ܐܰܡܻܝܢ ܐܳܡܰܪ ܐ̱ܢܳܐ ܠܟ݂ܽܘܢ ܕܷ݁ܐܢܳܐ ܐ̱ܢܳܐ ܬ݁ܰܪܥܷܗ ܕ݁ܥܳܢܳܐ܂ ח ܘܟ݂ܽܠܗܽܘܢ ܐܰܝܠܷܝܢ ܕܷ݁ܐܬ݂ܰܘ ܓ݁ܰܢ̈ܳܒ݂ܷܐ ܐܷܢܽܘܢ ܘܓ݂ܰܝ̈ܳܣܷܐ ܐܷܠܳܐ ܠܳܐ ܫܷܡܥܰܬ݂ ܐܷܢܽܘܢ ܥܳܢܳܐ܂ ט ܐܷܢܳܐ ܐ̱ܢܳܐ ܬ݁ܰܪܥܳܐ ܘܒ݂ܻܝ ܐܷܢ ܐ̱ܢܳܫ ܢܷܥܽܘܠ ܢܻܚܷܐ ܘܢܷܥܽܘܠ ܘܢܷܦ݁ܽܘܩ ܘܪܷܥܝܳܐ ܢܷܫܟ݁ܰܚ܂ אי ܓ݁ܰܢܳܒ݂ܳܐ ܠܳܐ ܐܳܬ݂ܷܐ ܐܷܠܳܐ ܕ݁ܢܷܓ݂ܢܽܘܒ݂ ܘܰܕ݂ܢܷܩܛܽܘܠ ܘܰܕ݂ܢܰܘܒܷ݁ܕ݂ ܐܷܢܳܐ ܐܷܬ݂ܻܝܬ݂ ܕ݁ܚܰܝܷ̈ܐ ܢܷܗܘܽܘܢ ܠܗܽܘܢ ܘܡܷܕܷ݁ܡ ܕ݁ܝܰܬܻ݁ܝܪ ܢܷܗܘܷܐ ܠܗܽܘܢ܂ אא ܐܷܢܳܐ ܐ̱ܢܳܐ ܪܳܥܝܳܐ ܛܳܒ݂ܳܐ ܪܳܥܝܳܐ ܛܳܒ݂ܳܐ ܢܰܦ݂ܫܷܗ ܣܳܐܷܡ ܚܠܳܦ݂ ܥܳܢܷܗ܂ אב ܐܰܓ݂ܻܝܪܳܐ ܕܷ݁ܝܢ ܕ݁ܠܳܐ ܗܘܳܐ ܪܳܥܝܳܐ ܘܠܰܘ ܕܻ݁ܝܠܷܗ ܐܷܢܽܘܢ ܥܷܪ̈ܒܷ݁ܐ ܡܳܐ ܕ݁ܰܚܙܳܐ ܕܻ݁ܐܒ݂ܳܐ ܕ݁ܳܐܬ݂ܷܐ ܫܳܒ݂ܷܩ ܥܳܢܳܐ ܘܥܳܪܷܩ ܘܳܐܬ݂ܷܐ ܕܻ݁ܐܒ݂ܳܐ ܚܳܛܷܦ݂ ܘܰܡܒ݂ܰܕ݁ܰܪ ܠܳܗ ܠܥܳܢܳܐ܂ אג ܐܰܓ݂ܻܝܪܳܐ ܕܷ݁ܝܢ ܥܳܪܷܩ ܡܷܛܽܠ ܕ݁ܰܐܓ݂ܻܝܪܳܐ ܗܽܘ ܘܠܳܐ ܒ݁ܛܻܝܠ ܠܷܗ ܥܰܠ ܥܳܢܳܐ܂ אד ܐܷܢܳܐ ܐ̱ܢܳܐ ܪܳܥܝܳܐ ܛܳܒ݂ܳܐ ܘܝܳܕ݂ܰܥ ܐ̱ܢܳܐ ܠܕ݂ܻܝܠܝ ܘܡܷܬ݂ܻܝܕ݂ܰܥ ܐ̱ܢܳܐ ܡܷܢ ܕܻ݁ܝܠܝ܂ אה ܐܰܝܟ݁ܰܢܳܐ ܕ݁ܝܳܕ݂ܰܥ ܠܻܝ ܐܳܒ݂ܝ ܘܷܐܢܳܐ ܝܳܕ݂ܰܥ ܐ̱ܢܳܐ ܠܳܐܒ݂ܝ ܘܢܰܦ݂ܫܝ ܣܳܐܷܡ ܐ̱ܢܳܐ ܚܠܳܦ݂ ܥܳܢܳܐ܂ או ܐܻܝܬ݂ ܠܻܝ ܕܷ݁ܝܢ ܐܳܦ݂ ܥܷܪ̈ܒܷ݁ܐ ܐ̱ܚܪ̈ܳܢܷܐ ܐܰܝܠܷܝܢ ܕ݁ܠܳܐ ܗܘܰܘ ܡܷܢ ܛܝܳܪܳܐ ܗܳܢܳܐ ܘܳܐܦ݂ ܠܗܽܘܢ ܘܳܠܷܐ ܠܻܝ ܠܡܰܝܬ݁ܳܝܽܘ ܐܷܢܽܘܢ ܘܢܷܫܡܥܽܘܢ ܩܳܠܝ ܘܬ݂ܷܗܘܷܐ ܥܳܢܳܐ ܟ݁ܽܠܳܗ ܚܕ݂ܳܐ ܘܚܰܕ݂ ܪܳܥܝܳܐ܂ אז ܡܷܛܽܠ ܗܳܢܳܐ ܐܳܒ݂ܝ ܪܳܚܷܡ ܠܻܝ ܕܷ݁ܐܢܳܐ ܣܳܐܷܡ ܐ̱ܢܳܐ ܢܰܦ݂ܫܝ ܕ݁ܬ݂ܽܘܒ݂ ܐܷܣܒ݂ܻܝܗ܂ אח ܠܳܐ ܗ̱ܘܳܐ ܐ̱ܢܳܫ ܫܳܩܷܠ ܠܳܗ ܡܷܢܝ ܐܷܠܳܐ ܐܷܢܳܐ ܣܳܐܷܡ ܐ̱ܢܳܐ ܠܳܗ ܡܷܢ ܨܷܒ݂ܝܳܢܝ ܫܰܠܻܝܛ ܐ̱ܢܳܐ ܓܷ݁ܝܪ ܕ݁ܰܐܣܻܝܡܻܝܗ ܘܫܰܠܻܝܛ ܐ̱ܢܳܐ ܕ݁ܬ݂ܽܘܒ݂ ܐܷܣܒ݂ܻܝܗ ܕ݁ܗܳܢܳܐ ܦ݁ܽܘܩܕ݁ܳܢܳܐ ܩܰܒ݁ܠܷܬ݂ ܡܷܢ ܐܳܒ݂ܝ܂

19 There was still division among the Judeans because of these sayings. 20 Many among them were saying, “He has a demon and is indeed insane. Why do you hear him?” 21 Others were saying, “These words are not those of a demoniac. Can a demon open the eyes of the blind?” 22 It was then the Feast of the Dedication in Jerusalem and winter, 23 and Jesus was walking in the temple in the porch of Solomon. 24 The Judeans surrounded him and said to him, “How long are you going to take our breath? If you are the Messiah, tell us openly.” 25 He answered and said to them, “I told you and you do not believe. The works I do in the name of my Father testify to me. 26 But you do not believe, because you are not of my sheep, as I said to you. 27 The sheep of mine hear my voice. I know them, and they follow me. 28 I give to them eternal life, and they shall not perish forever, nor shall anyone snatch them from my hands. 29 For my Father, who gave them to me, is greater than all. No one can snatch them from the hand of my Father. 30 My Father and I are one.”

31 The Judeans took up stones again to stone him. 32 Jesus said to them, “I have shown you many beautiful works from my Father. For which work of these do you stone me?” 33 The Judeans said to him, “It is not for beautiful works that we stone you, but because you blaspheme. While you are a man, you make yourself a god.” 34 Jesus said to them, “Is it not thus written in your law, ‘I said you are gods’? 35 If he called those gods because the word of God had come to them and scripture cannot be undone, 36 do you say he the Father sanctified and sent into the world blasphemes because I said to you, ‘I am the Son of God?’ 37 But I do the works of my Father. You do not believe me. 38 If I do, even if you are not faithful, believe the works so you know and believe my Father is in me and I am in my Father.” 39 They were seeking to sieze him again, and he went forth out of their hands. 40 He went beyond the Jordan to the place where John was baptizing before and was there. 41 Several came to him and said, “John had not worked even one sign but everything John said of this man is true. 42 Many were faithful to him.
