Joseph's First Dreams
Genesis 37:3-11
3 Israel would love Joseph more than all his sons because he was to him the son of old age and made him a sleeved tunic. 4 His brothers saw their father loved him more than all his brothers, hated him, and could not speak to him peace. 5 Then Joseph dreamed a dream and told it to his brothers, and they hated him the more. 6 He said to them, “Hear this dream I dreamed. 7 Look, we were binding sheaves within the field. And look, my sheaf arose and stood upright. And look, your sheaves encircled us and bowed down to my sheaf.” 8 His brothers said to him, “Would you indeed rule over us? Or would you indeed control us?” Then they hated him again the more because of his dreams and his statements. 9 Then he dreamed again another dream, narrated it to his brothers, and said to them, “Look, I dreamed again a dream. And look, the sun, moon, and eleven stars were bowing down to me.” 10 He narrated it to his father and his brothers, and his father scolded him and said to him, “What dream is this you dreamed? Will I, your mother, and your brothers indeed come to bow down to you upon the ground?” 11 Then his brothers envied him, but his father was keeping the statements.

Plot Against Joseph
Genesis 37:17-24
17 Joseph went after his brothers and found them at Dothan. 18 They saw him from a distance, and until he neared them, they were thinking to themselves to kill him. 19 Then his brothers said to one another, “Look, that dreamer of dreams is coming. 20 Come, we will kill him, cast him into one of the pits, say an evil animal has eaten him, and see what becomes of his dreams.” 21 Reuben heard and saved him from their hands. 22 He said to them, “Let us not kill a life.” Reuben said to them, “Shed no blood. Cast him into this pit in the wilderness, and may no hand stretch on him.” So he might save him from their hands and return him to his father. 23 When Joseph came to his brothers, they stripped him of his sleeved coat he was wearing. 24 They took him and cast him into the pit. The pit was empty, and there was no water in it.

Jacob’s Lament for Joseph
Genesis 37:31-36
31 Then they took Joseph’s coat, slaughtered a kid of the flock, and dipped the coat in its blood. 32 They sent for the sleeved coat, brought it to their father, and said, “We have found this. Identify the tunic if it is your son’s or not.” 33 He recognized it and said, “It is my son’s coat! An evil animal has eaten him. Joseph my son indeed is broken.” 34 Jacob tore his clothes, bound sackcloth on his loins, and mourned for his son many days. 35 All of his sons and all his daughters rose to console him. He did not wish to be consoled and said, “I will descend upon my son to Sheol as I mourn.” And his father wept for him. 36 The Midianites had sold him in Egypt to the eunuch Potiphar, the captain of Pharaoh’s guard.

Onan
Genesis 38:1-10
1 It was at that time Judah went down from his brothers’ and turned to a certain Adullamite named Hirah. 2 Judah saw there a daughter of a certain Canaanite named Shua. He married her and entered hers. 3 She conceived and bore him a son, and he named him Er. 4 She conceived again and bore a son, and he named him Onan. 5 She did again and bore a son, and he named him Shelah. She had been cut off when she bore him. 6 Then Judah took a wife for his firstborn Er; her name was Tamar. 7 Judah’s firstborn Er was evil before the Lord, and the Lord put him to death. 8 Then Judah said to his son Onan, “Enter on your brother’s wife and carry on his name: raise offspring for your brother.” 9 Onan knew the offspring would not be his. Whenever he would enter the wife of his brother, he would degrade upon the ground to not raise offspring for his brother. 10 The thing he did was evil before the Lord, and he put him to death as well.

Tamar’s Disguise
Genesis 38:11-15
11 Judah said to his daughter-in-law Tamar, “Stay a widow in your father’s house until my son Shelah grows up,” because he said, Shall he also die like his brothers? Tamar went and stayed in her father’s house. 12 The days multiplied, and Shua’s daughter, Judah’s wife, died. Judah mourned and went up along with his friend Hirah the Adullamite to the shearers of his flock to Timnah. 13 They told Tamar and said to her, “Look, your father-in-law is going up to Timnah to shear his flock.” 14 She took aside her clothes of widowhood, hid herself with a veil, adorned herself, and sat down at the crossroads on the road to Timnah; because she saw Shelah grew up, and she had not been given to him. 15 Judah saw her and thought her to be a prostitute because she hid her face.

ܿJudah’s Hiring of Tamar
Genesis 38:16-23
16 He turned toward her at the road and said to her, “Come I shall enter yours,” because he did not know she was his daughter-in-law. She said to him, “What do you give me to enter mine?” 17 He said, “I shall send a kid from the flock.” She said, “If you will give me a pledge until you send it.” 18 He said, “What pledge shall I give you?” She said, “Your signet, kerchief, and the staff in your hand.” He gave her them and entered hers, and she conceived by him. 19 She rose, went, took off her veil, and dressed in her clothes of widowhood. 20 Judah sent the kid by his Adullamite friend to take the pledge from the hand of the woman, but he could not find her. 21 He asked the people of the region and said, “Where is the prostitute sitting at the crossroads?” They said, “There was no prostitute here.” 22 He returned to Judah and said, “I did not find her. Also, the people of the region were saying, ‘There was no prostitute here.’” 23 Judah said, “She will take it for herself; otherwise, I will become a joke. Look, I sent this kid, and you could not find her.”

Judah’s Acknowledgment of Tamar
Genesis 38:24-30
24 It was three months later it was told to Judah and they said to him, “Your daughter-in-law Tamar fornicated. Look, from fornication she is pregnant.” Judah said, “Bring her out. She will burn.” 25 When she they were bringing her out, she sent for her father-in-law, “From the man to whom these belong I am pregnant.” She said, “Recognize whose are these: the signet, kerchief, and staff.” 26 He had recognized them. Judah said, “She is more innocent than I. Because of this, I did not give her to my son Shelah.” And he did not lie with her again. 27 It was the time of her labor, and here twins were in her womb. 28 When she was giving birth, he gave his hand. The midwife put a string of scarlet, tied it on his hand, and said, “This one will come out first.” 29 When he retracted his hand, his brother came out, and she said, “What a breach rent upon you!” And she called him Perez. 30 Afterwards, his brother came out, upon whose hand was the thread of scarlet, and she called him Zerah.

Joseph’s Authority in Potiphar’s House
Genesis 39:1-6
1 The Midianites had brought Joseph down to Egypt. Potiphar, the custodian and captain of the guard of Pharaoh, an Egyptian man, bought him from the hand of the Arabs who brought him down there. 2 The Lord was with Joseph, and he was prosperous in his Egyptian master’s house. 3 His master saw the Lord was with him, and the Lord would make all he would do prosper by his hand. 4 Joseph found mercy in his eyes, and he heard him. He gave authority to him over his house and had given all he had into his hands. 5 From the time he had given authority to him over his house and all he had, the Lord blessed the Egyptian’s house for Joseph’s sake; the blessing of the Lord was on all he had in the house and on the field. 6 He left everything he had in Joseph’s hand. He did not know anything about him except for the bread he was eating. Joseph was beautiful to see, his aspect lovely.

ܿPotiphar’s Wife
Genesis 39:7-12
7 After these deeds, his master’s wife raised her eye on Joseph, and she said to him, “Lie down with me.” 8 He did not want to and said to his master’s wife, “Look, my master does not know about me inside his house and has given me authority over all he has in my hand. 9 None are greater in this house than I, nor has he withheld from me a thing except yourself because you are his wife. 10 How will I do this great evil and sin against God?” 11 When she would tell him everyday, he would not consent to lie beside her or to be with her. 11 One day Joseph went into the house to do his work, and none of the people of the household were there in the house. 12 She grasped his clothes and said to him, “Lie down with me!” He left his clothes in her hands, fled, and left to the street. 13 When she saw he left his clothes in her hands and fled to the street, 14 she called out to the people of her household and said to them, “See he brought us a Hebrew slave to mock us! He entered on me to lie down with me, and I called out aloud. 15 And when he heard me raise my voice and call, he left his clothes in my hands and fled to the street.” 16 She took his clothes by her until his master entered the house. 17 She said to him these words: “The Hebrew slave whom you brought to us came in on me to mock me. 18 And when I raised my voice and called, he left his clothes in my hands and fled to the street.” 19 When his master heard the words his wife told him, “According to these words, your slave has done to me,” his rage was heated. 20 Joseph’s master took him and cast him in prison, the place where the king’s prisoners were bound. He was there in prison, 21 and the Lord was with Joseph and cast grace upon him, gave him mercy in the eyes of the prison chief.

Imprisonment of Pharaoh’s Custodians
Genesis 40:2-8
2 Pharaoh raged at his two custodians, both the headwaiter and head baker, 3 and cast them in prison inside the house of the captain of the guard, the place where Joseph was bound. 4 The captain of the guard gave Joseph authority over them, and he heard them for days in prison. 5 The two dreamt a dream; each dreamed one night, each according to his dream’s interpretation: both the king of Egypt’s waiter and baker bound in prison. 6 Joseph came in to them in the morning and saw they were gloomy. 7 He asked the custodians of Pharaoh with him in captivity inside his master’s house and said, “Why are your faces gloomy today?” 8 They said to him, “We dreamed a dream, and there is no interpreter for it.” Joseph said to them, “Do not interpretations belong to God? Tell me.”

Prisoners' Dreams
Genesis 40:9-23
9 The headwaiter told his dream to Joseph and said to him, “In my dream, here was a vine before me. 10 On the vine were three branches. When it had budded, its leaves came in, its clusters ripened, and there were grapes. 11 The cup of Pharaoh was in my hand. I took the grapes and pressed them into Pharaoh’s cup. I gave the cup to Pharaoh’s hands.” 12 Joseph said to him, “This is the interpretation of your dream: the three branches are three days. 13 After three days, Pharaoh will remember you and will return you to your office, and you will give Pharaoh’s cup in his hand as was the former custom when you would give him drink. 14 But remember me with you when it is well with you. Do me a kindness and truth. Remember me before Pharaoh. Get me out of this prison 15 because I am indeed stolen from the land of the Hebrews. Also, here I have done nothing for them to have cast me into prison.” 16 The head baker saw he interpreted beautifully and said to Joseph, “I too am with my dream. Here were three loaf baskets on my head. 17 In the top basket were some of all of Pharaoh’s food, the baker’s work. A winged animal was eating from the basket on top of my head.” 18 Joseph answered and said to him, “This is the interpretation of your dream: three baskets are three days. 19 After three days Pharaoh will take your head from you and hang you on the wood, and birds will eat your flesh from you.” 20 It was the third day, on the day of Pharaoh’s birthday, he made a feast for all his servants 21 and remembered the headwaiter and head baker among his servants. He established the headwaiter to his office, and he gave the cup on Pharaoh’s hands. 22 He had hung the head baker as Joseph had interpreted to them. 23 Then the headwaiter did not remember Joseph and forgot him.

Pharaoh's Dreams
Genesis 41:14-24
14 Pharaoh sent and called for Joseph, and they rushed him from the cistern. He shaved, changed his clothes, and entered before Pharaoh. 15 Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I dreamed a dream, and there is no interpreter for it. I have heard about you hearing dream and interpreting it.” 16 Joseph answered and said to Pharaoh, “Do you hope apart from God peace will answer Pharaoh?” 17 Pharaoh said to Joseph, “In my dream, here I was standing on the riverbank. 18 Here going up from the river were seven cows, fat in their flesh, their appearance beautiful, and pasturing within the meadow. 19 Here going up behind them were seven other cows, meager, their appearance bad, and very sickly in their flesh. I did not seen such bad ones in all of the land of Egypt. 20 Then the sickly and bad cows ate the previous seven fat cows. 21 They entered inside them, and it was not known they entered in them. Their appearance was as bad to see as before. Then I awoke. 22 Again I saw in my dream here going up on one stalk were seven ears of grain, full and good. Here sprouting after them were seven ears, both thin and dashed by the Simoom, 22 and the thin ears swallowed the seven good ears. I told the magicians, and there was no one to tell me.”

Joseph’s Interpretation
Genesis 41:41-45; Psalm 105:16-22; Psalm 47
25 Joseph said to Pharaoh, “Pharaoh’s dreams are one, showing to Pharaoh what God is doing. 26 The seven good cows are the seven years; the seven good ears are the seven years; the dream is one. 27 The seven meager and bad cows that went up behind them are seven years. The seven thin ears dashed by the Simoom shall be seven years of famine. 28 It is the statement I told Pharaoh: what God is doing, he is showing to Pharaoh. 29 Here seven years are coming, a great plenty in all of the land of Egypt. 30 Seven years of famine will rise after them. All the plenty will be forgotten in the land of Egypt, and famine will end the land. 31 The plenty in the land will not be known because of that famine after it will strengthen much. 32 The dream repeats twice for Pharaoh to prepare the matter before God, and God is rushing to do it. 33 Now Pharaoh will see a wise and understanding man and set him over the land of Egypt. 34 Pharaoh will act and set up an authority over the land of Egypt. They will take one-fifth from the land of Egypt during seven years of plenty, 35 gather grain of these coming good years, store grain under Pharaoh’s hand, and keep the grain in villages. 36 The grain shall be kept for the land for the seven years of famine that are to be within the land of Egypt, and the land will not end by famine.” 37 The proposal pleased the eyes of Pharaoh and the eyes of his servants, 38 and Pharaoh said to his servants, “Is there found one like this man who has the spirit of God?” 39 Pharaoh said to Joseph, “After God has made all of this known to you, none are as wise and understanding as you. 40 You shall be over my house. Upon the word of your mouth all my people shall take judgement. Only the throne shall be greater than you.” 41 Pharaoh said to Joseph, “See I gave you authority over all of the land of Egypt.” 42 Pharaoh removed his ring from his hand and placed it on the hand of Joseph. He dressed him in clothes of linen, set a golden necklace on his neck, 43 sat him in his second chariot, and called before him, “Father and authority,” and gave him authority over all of the land of Egypt. 44 Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I am Pharaoh. I command that without you no one will lift their hand or foot in all the land of Egypt.” 45 Pharaoh called Joseph the name of Zaphnath-panah, the covered are revealed to him, and gave him Asenath daughter of Potiphar, priest of On, as his wife. Joseph went out over all the land of Egypt.
16 He called a famine on the land, broke every reed of grain. 17 He sent before them a man: Joseph was sold as slave. 18 They bound his feet in chains, and his soul entered in irons 19 until the word of the Lord inflamed him. 20 The king sent, released him, and made him ruler over the people: 21 master of his house and ruler of all his possession 22 that he might instruct rulers as he wills and make his elders wise.

1 All you peoples, clap your hands. Praise God with the sound of praise. 2 Because the Lord is exalted and feared, a great king over all the earth 3 who subdued peoples under us and nations under our feet. 4 He chose us as his heritage, the honor of Jacob whom he loved. 5 God went up with praise, the Lord with the sound of a trumpet. 6 Sing to God with praise. Sing to our king 7 because God is king of all the earth. Sing praise to him. 8 God ruled over the people. Genesis 43:1-14
1 The famine strengthened in the land. 2 When they finished eating the grain they brought from Egypt, their father Jacob said to them, “Go down and buy us a little grain.” 3 Judah said to him, “The man has indeed warned us and said, ‘You all will not see my face unless your brother is with you all.’ 4 If you send our brother with us, we shall go down and buy us grain. 5 If you do not send him, we are not going down, because the man said to us, ‘You all shall not see my face unless your brother is with you.’” 6 Their father Israel said to them, “Why did you all afflict me and tell the man whether you all had a brother?” 7 They said, “The man indeed inquired about us and our family and said, ‘Is your father still alive? Do you all have a brother?’ And we told him. Because of these words, did we indeed know he would say to us, ‘Bring down the brother of you all.’?” 8 Judah said to Israel his father, “Send the boy with us. We will rise, go, live, and not die: we, you, and our property. 9 I myself am pledging for him. Demand him from my hands. If I do not bring him to you and set him before you, I shall sin against my father for all days. 10 Also, if we had not delayed, perhaps then we would have returned two times.” 11 Their father Israel said to them, “If it is so, you all do this: take from the good of the land in your articles, and bring them down to the man as an offering: a little balm, a little honey, gum, pistachio, nuts, and almonds. 12 Take double the money all of your hands, and return the money returned in your wallets lest it is a mistake. 13 Take your brother, rise, and turn towards the man. 14 May the Almighty give you mercy in front of the man and send with you your other brother and Benjamin. As for me, I as one bereft am bereft.”

Joseph's Banquet
Genesis 43:26-34
26 Joseph entered the house, and they brought him the offering in their hands to the house and bowed to him upon the ground. 27 He asked about their welfare and said to them, “Is your father well, the old man about whom you told me? Is he still alive?” 28 They said to him, “Your servant, our father, is well.” They said to him, “He is still alive.” Then they kneeled and bowed. 29 He raised his eyes, saw his brother Benjamin, the son of his mother, and said to them, “Is this your youngest brother, about whom you told me?” He said, “May God have mercy on you, my son!” 30 Joseph hurried away because the love for his brother was revealed, and he sought to cry and entered a room and wept there. 31 Then he washed his face, went out, got a hold of himself, and said, “They shall place the bread.” 32 They placed it for him by himself, for them by themselves, and for the Egyptians eating with him by themselves because Egyptians would not eat with Hebrews because it is a defilement to Egyptians. 33 They reclined before him, the senior according to his seniority and the young according to his youth. Then the men were amazed by each other. 34 They carried portions to them before him, Benjamin’s portion was five times as much as all of their portions. Then they drank and got drunk with him.

Genesis 44:1-10
1 He commanded the chief of the house and said, “Fill the men’s sacks with grain, as much as they can carry, and put each man’s money in the mouth of his sack. 2 Take the silver wine cup of mine, and put it in the wallet of the youngest along with his provisions.” Then the servant did according to the word of Joseph. 3 When it was seemly, Joseph said to his head of house, “Arise, pursue the men, overtake them, and say to them, ‘Why have you requited evil for good? 5 This is the wine cup with which my master drinks. He also does indeed divine with it. You all did wrong in the thing that you did.’” 6 He overtook them and said these words. 7 Then they said to him, “May our master not say these words. Far be it your servants do this deed! 8 Look, we have returned to him the money we found in our wallets from the land of Canaan. How would we steal from the house of your master gold or silver? 9 May he on whom is is found among your servants die, and may we be the servants of our master.” 10 He said to them, “Even now according to your word, so be it: he on whom it is found shall be to me a servant, and you all shall be innocent.”

Finding the Cup
Genesis 44:11-17
11 Each of the men hurried and put his sack on the ground. Then each opened up his sack. 12 They searched, beginning with the greatest and ending with the youngest, and the wine cup was found in the sack of Benjamin. 13 They tore their clothes, each man loaded up his donkey, and they returned to the town. 14 Judah and his brothers entered Joseph’s home, and he was still there. They fell before him on the ground. 15 Joseph said to them, “What is this action you did? Do you not know a man like me indeed divines?” 16 Judah said, “What shall we say to my master, and what shall we speak? With what shall we be innocent? Before God, the sin was found among your servants. Here we are, servants to my master, both we and the one in whose hand the wine cup was found.” 17 He said to them, “Far be it from me I would do this! May the man on whom the wine cup was found become my servant. You all shall go up in peace to your father’s.”

27 “Your servant our father said to us, ‘You know my wife bore me two sons; 28 one left me, and I said, he is indeed killed; and I have not seen him up to now. 29 You are taking also this one from me? An accident meets him, and you bring down my old age with evil to Sheol.’ 30 Now once we went to your servant, our father, the boy was not with us, and his soul bound to him as himself. 31 Once he sees the boy is not with us, he is going to die, and your servants are going to bring down the old age of your servant, our father, with misery to Sheol. 32 Because your servant has pledged for the boy to our father, and I said, ‘If I do not bring him to you, I will sin against my father all days.’ 33 Now your servant will remain on behalf of the boy a servant to my master; let the boy go with his brothers. 34 Because how shall I go up to my father’s and the boy not be with me? Shall I see the evil that will befall my father?”

Joseph’s Revelation
Genesis 45:1-15
1 Joseph could not restrain himself from all those who were standing before him. He said, “Take everyone away from me.” No one abided with him when Joseph revealed himself unto his brothers. 2 He raised his voice in weeping, the Egyptians heard, and it was heard by the household of Pharaoh. 3 Joseph said to his brothers, “I am Joseph, your brother. Is my father still alive?” His brothers could not give him an account, because they feared in his presence. 4 Then Joseph said to his brothers, “Draw near to me.” They drew near to him. Then he said to them, “I am Joseph, your brother whom you sold to the Egyptians. 5 Now it will not sadden you or be bad in your eyes that you have sold me here. God has sent me here before you for nourishment 6 because look, two years of famine is within the land and still there are five years of no sowing and reaping. 7 God sent me before you to set for you a remnant and to keep alive for you a great survival on the earth. 8 Now it was not you who sent me here, but God. He has made me a father to Pharaoh, a master over all of the Egyptians, and an authority over all the land of Egypt.

Joseph’s Request for Jacob
Genesis 45:9-15
9 “Quickly bring me up my father. Say to him, ‘So says your son Joseph, God made me master over all of the Egyptians. Go down and do not delay. 10 Settle in the land of Goshen. You would be near to me: you, your children, your household’s children, your flocks, your bulls, and all you have. 11I will feed you all there because still five years of famine are ordained. Otherwise, you might perish along with your house and all you have.’ 12 Look, the eyes of you all see along with the eyes of my brother Benjamin what my mouth has spoken to you all. 13 Tell my father all my honor among Egyptians and all you saw. Hurry, bring my father down here.” 14 Then he fell upon the neck of his brother Benjamin and wept, and Benjamin had wept upon his neck. 15 He kissed all his brothers and wept upon them. Afterwards his brothers spoke with him.

21 The sons of Israel did so, and Joseph gave them wagons according to the word of Pharaoh’s mouth and gave them provisions for the way for all of them. 22 He gave each man a pair of garments, and to Benjamin he gave three hundred silver pieces and five sets of garments. 23 To his father he sent the following: ten donkeys loaded with the good of Egypt’s land, ten female donkeys loaded with grain, wine, and provisions for his father on the way. 24 He sent his brothers, they went, and he said to them, “Do not quarrel on the way.” And they went up from Egypt and came to the land of Canaan to their father Jacob. 25 They told and said to him, “Joseph is still alive. He has authority of all the land of Egypt.’ He neglected in his heart because he not believe them. 26 Then they told him all the words Joseph said to them, and Jacob saw the wagons Joseph sent to carry him. The spirit of their father Jacob was relieved. 27 Israel said, “This is great enough for me: my son Joseph is still alive. I shall go see him before I die.”

Jacob's Vision
Genesis 46:1-7
1 Israel picked up on his journey along with all he had and came to Beersheba. He offered sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac. 2 God said Israel in a vision of the night and said, “Jacob, Jacob.” And he said, “Here I am.” 3 He said, “I am the God of your father. Do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, because I will make of you a great people there. 4 I will go down with you and will bring you up, and Joseph shall place his hands upon your eye.” 5 Jacob rose from Beersheba, and the sons of Israel carried their father Jacob, their luggage, and their wives in the wagons Pharaoh sent to carry him. 6 They took their livestock and the property they acquired in the land of Canaan and came to Egypt along with Jacob and all his offspring with him. 7 He had brought his sons, his sons’ sons with him, his daughters, and his daughters’ daughters, and all his offspring with him to Egypt.

Reunion between Jacob and Joseph
Genesis 46:28-34
28 He sent Judah ahead to Joseph to appear before him into Goshen. They came to the land of Goshen, 29 and Joseph bridled his chariot and went up to meet his father Israel in Goshen. He appeared to him, fell, and wept on his neck again. 30 Israel said to Joseph, “I shall die now after having seen your face, my son, who are still alive.” 31 Joseph said to his brothers and to his father’s household, “I will go up, tell Pharaoh, and say to him, ‘My brothers and my father’s household in the land of Canaan have come to me. 32 The men are shepherds because the men acquire property. They have brought their flocks, their bulls, and all that they have.’ 33 Pharaoh shall call you and say to you, ‘What is your work?’ 34 Tell him, ‘Property lords. It is our work from our youth until now, both us and our fathers,” because you shall settle in the land of Goshen because all shepherds are hated by the Egyptians.”

Joseph’s Oath to Israel
Genesis 47:27-31
27 Israel settled in the land of Egypt and in the region of Goshen. They strengthened in it, increased, and multiplied well. 28 Jacob lived in the land of Egypt seventeen years, and the days of Jacob, the years of his life, were one hundred forty-seven years. 29 The days for Israel to die neared, and he called his son Joseph and said to him, “If I have found favor in your eyes, put your hand under my thigh, promise me by the Lord, do with me goodness and truth, and do not bury me in Egypt. 30 I will lie down with my ancestors, and carry me from Egypt and bury me in their grave.” Joseph said, “I will do as according to your word 31 He said, “Swear to me,” and he swore to him. Then Israel bowed himself on the head of his bed.

Blessing of Joseph’s Sons
Genesis 48:13-22
13 Joseph took his two sons. Ephraim in his right from Israel’s left, and Manasseh in his left from Israel’s right, he brought them near to him. 14 Israel stretched out his right and put it on Ephraim’s head, who was younger, and his left on Manasseh’s head. He changed his hands because Manasseh was the firstborn. 15 Jacob blessed his son Joseph and said, “May the God before whom my ancestors Abraham and Isaac were beautiful, the God who nourished me from my youth to this day, 16 and the angel who redeemed me from all evil bless the boys. My name will be called with them: the name of my ancestors Abraham and Isaac. They will increase and multiple within the land.” 17 Joseph saw his father put his right hand on Ephraim’s head, and it displeased his eyes. He was leaning his father’s hand to move it from Ephraim’s head and place it on Manasseh’s head. 18 Joseph said to his father, “It was not so, my father, rather this one is the firstborn. Put your right upon his head.” 19 His father did not want to and said, “I know, my son, I know. May he also become a nation and also become great. Nevertheless, his younger brother shall be greater than he, and his offspring shall become a multitude of nations.” 20 He blessed them that day and said, “By you may Israel be blessed, and they will say, ‘God will make you like Ephraim and like Manasseh.’” And he made Ephraim ahead of Manasseh. 21 Israel said to Joseph, “Look, I am dying. God will be with you all and return you all to the land of your ancestors. 22 I, look, gave you one portion more than your brothers, which I took in my hand from the Amorites with my sword and my bow.”

Blessing of Jacob's Elder Sons
Genesis 49:1-12
1 Then Jacob called his sons and said to them: “Gather and I shall tell you what will happen to you at the end of days. 2 Gather and hear, sons of Jacob. Hear your father Israel. 3 Reuben, you are my firstborn, my might and head of my power, the remnant of majesty and remanant of strength. 4 You erred like water; you shall not remain as you went up on your father’s bed. Truly you defiled my couch and went up on it. 5 Simeon and Levi are brothers; weapons of rage are from their nature. 6 In their conspiracy may I never enter, and in their assembly may I never go down from my honor, because in their rage they killed men, and in their fury they uprooted the city wall. 7 Cursed be their rage because it is strong, and their fury because for it is harsh! I will divide them in Jacob and scatter them in Israel. 8 Judah, your brothers shall praise you. May your hand be on the neck of your enemies. Your father’s sons will bow down to you. 9 Judah is a lion’s cub. From the killed, my son, you have gone up. He knelt and crouched like a lion and like a lion’s cub. Who will raise him up? 10 The rod shall not depart from Judah and the herald from between his feet until the one to whom it belongs comes. May the people wait for him. 11 He will bind to the vine his colt and to the shoot the son of the jenny. He whitens in wine his clothes and in the blood of grapes his cloak. 12 His eyes are redder than wine and his teeth whiter than milk.

Blessing of Jacob’s Younger Sons
Genesis 49:13-27
13 May Zebulun settle on the seashores. Genesis 49:28-33
28 All these tribes of Israel are twelve, and this is what their father said to them. He said to them and blessed them, each according to his blessings. 29 He blessed them, commanded them, and said to them, “I am gathering to my people. Bury me with my fathers in the cave in the field of Ephron the Hittite, 30 in the double cave in the field before Mamre, in the land of Canaan, the field Abraham bought from Ephron the Hittite as a burial inheritance. 31 There Abraham and his wife Sarah were buried; there Isaac and his wife Rebekah were buried; and there I buried Leah. 32 The purchase of the field and cave in it was from the Hittites.” 33 When Jacob finished commanding his charge to his sons, he extended his feet in bed, sickened, died, and was gathered to his people.

Joseph’s Reassurance to His Brothers
Genesis 50:15-21
15 Joseph’s brothers saw their father died, were afraid, and said, “Will Joseph harm us? Will he requite us all the evil we did to him?” 16 They neared Joseph and said to him, “Your father had commanded before his death and said, 17 ‘Thus say to Joseph: Please, forgive the foolishness of your brothers and their sins: they did to you evil.’ Now forgive the foolishness of the servants of your father’s God.” Joseph wept when they spoke to him. 18 His brothers went, fell down before him, and said, “Look, we are slaves to you.” 19 Joseph said to them, “Do not fear, because I am under God. 20 You have recokoned evil upon me; God reckoned it for good to do as today and for many people to live. 21 Now do not fear. I myself will provide for you and your belongings.” He consoled them and spoke to their heart.

Death of Joseph
Genesis 50:22-26
22 Joseph dwelt in Egypt along with his father’s household, and Joseph lived one hundred ten years. 23 Joseph saw Ephraim’s great-grandchildren. Also the children of Machir son of Manasseh had been born on Joseph’s knees. 24 Then Joseph said to his brothers, “I am dying, and God indeed remembers you and bring you up out of this land to the land that he swore to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.” 25 Joseph made the sons of Israel swear and said, “God indeed remembers you. Carry up my bones from here with you.” 26 Joseph died, one hundred ten years old. They embalmed him and placed him in a coffin in Egypt.
